Our Story

On March 10, 2010, Matthew was born eight weeks early, weighing under three pounds. Because Matthew’s lungs were not fully developed, he was immediately taken to the NICU.  He received the best possible care and treatment from the nurses and doctors, but all we wanted was to be able to hold him and take him home.  During the months of his life, his mommy would go in everyday, read to him, and tell him stories about his brothers at home. She told him how the rest of his family was thinking about him and couldn’t wait to meet him.  We believe that Matthew grew to know the voices of his family, and the connection to these voices kept in our lives.  On August 4, 2010, Matthew could not fight anymore and died peacefully with his mommy and daddy holding him.
In honor of our precious Matthew who left us far too soon, we want to bring a little bit of joy to the families who are seeing the inside of the NICU. The gift of a book provides these families with a story to read, thus giving them another way to connect with their babies. The book can be taken home with the family as a treasured memory of their time in the NICU.
