UCSD Herm Project, 1999 - 2001
Three utilitarian bollards were replaced with forged, welded, and anatomically correct steel herms. The UCSD facilities department assisted in the installation. One day after their arrival, two herms went missing. One was removed by campus police due to a complaint. The second was no where to be seen. Days later, I found it proudly displayed in front of the UCSD Facilities Metalshop, where it had been given a formal base, and also a copper wrought fig leaf. See Lous Herm. Over the course of two years the herms would often go missing, only to turn up at the end of the school year. They are now in the collection of UCSD Professor Kim McConnel.
