Classroom Polices, Rules & Procedures
- Be positive and respect yourself, others, and all school property.
- Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself. Follow directions the first time they are given.
- Come to class prepared each day. Being prepared consists of having a notebook, folder,
calculator, pencil and pen, as well as completed homework.
- Be seated in your assigned seat at the start of each class with homework out. Begin do now assignment,
which will be written on the front board.
Attendance Policy
(in accordance with the attendance policy stated in student handbook)
- Regular attendance in class is extremely important. Poor attendance is a leading cause of unsatisfactory grades. Fourteen(14) absences in a year will result in loss of credit for the class.
- If you are absent for one or more full days, you are responsible to make-up any class work, homework assignments, tests, or quizzes that you missed. For absences of up to five consecutive days, you will be allowed one day of makeup time for each day absent. Absences of six or more consecutive days will be treated on an individual basis.
- If you are absent from class on the day of a test or quiz, you will take the test or quiz on the next day that you are present. If you were absent for the review as well, the makeup policy above will apply.
- If you are absent from class due to a field trip, lateness to school, or early dismissal, you are expected to see me sometime that day for your homework assignment or make-up work. Unless emergency circumstances genuinely prevent you from doing so, no make-up time will be allowed for absences due to field trips, lateness to school, or non-emergency early dismissal.
- Prompt arrival to class is expected of all students. Being on time means that you are in your assigned seat, when the bell rings. Three lates to class equals one absence. Lateness of over 10 minutes is considered a cut.
Grading Policy
- Your percentage grade will be based on how many points you earn out of how many total points are available each marking period: Your points earned/total point possible = Your earned grade.
- In general, there is a Test given at the end of each unit or chapter and Quizzes during each chapter. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced.
- Homework will be assigned daily and is sometimes collected and graded. Although not all assignments are collected and graded, they will be checked for completion...You must show your work to receive full credit. If you are unable to solve a problem, the problem should be written out and attempted, do not just leave a blank space. Homework assignments not submitted on the day they are due will be graded as a zero and can only be made-up by a student for a grade due to a legitimate absence.
- Class Work assignments may also be collected and graded. Class work may be completed individually, in pairs, and sometimes in small groups. Pairs and groups are opportunities for students to share ideas, check for methods to complete work, and for students to help each other. All students are still expected to do all work.
- Course Projects may be assigned as written projects, computer assignments, presentations, or other alternative assignments and will be weighted and graded on an individual basis.
- Notebook: It’s important for students to keep an organized notebook and folder, and bring it to class every day. Students should take good notes because there may be times when they are permitted to use notes and/or other work for quizzes.
- Composition Notebook (the sewn marble type) with pages numbered, class work, homework labeled with section #, title and date within your notes, and a Table of contents.
- Folder: A 2-pocket Folder. This will contain all tests, quizzes and worksheets in chronological order with the last paper on top. Current marking period’s paper on the right, Past marking period on the left.
Please take advantage of any extra credit assignments I assign. I will not give out extra credit at the end of the marking period.
