2008 - 黃毓民立法會擲蕉 Wong Yuk-man threw bananas at the LegCo

Background:

Chief Executive Donald Tsang proposed in his policy address to increase the Old Age Allowance to HKD1,000 but with a means test introduced.

Details:

LegCo members Albert Chan Wai-yip and Leung Kwok-hung interrupted Tsang, fiercely criticized Tsang for disrespecting the grass-roots elderly by depriving their right to welfare. Wong Yuk-man joined his fellow party colleagues and began shouting at Tsang. As the three of them were told to leave the chamber, Wong threw three bananas at Tsang.

Consequences:

It marked the beginning of "radical" actions inside the legislature. Although many condemned Wong for putting on a show, some supported him for his outspokenness. Since then, radical tactics are often used in many occasions at the LegCo, mostly involved the throwing of objects.
