About the Department:
The Department of Mathematics of Visva-Bharati was established in 1961 as the first Science Department under Siksha Bhavana with Undergraduate (UG) Honours Course in Mathematics. Later, in 1963 the postgraduate (PG) program was introduced. The Department since its inception has progressed and reached new heights. Mathematics is also offered as an allied subject for students of science, humanities, social science, and languages.
The Department of Mathematics (DoM) has been actively engaged in research not only on computational mathematics and nonlinear sciences which include Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Magentohydrodynamics (MHD), Atmospheric Sciences, Mathematical Biology, and Plasma Dynamics, but also in some other fields, namely, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Functional Analysis, Fuzzy Topology, Fuzzy Functional Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Symmetry and Painleve Analysis of differential equations, Artificial Intelligence, Wavelet-based Numerical Analysis, Number Theory, Cryptography, etc.
The department has been supported by UGC's Special Assistance Programme (SAP) since April 2004.
