Course Description and Grading BreakdownThis course
will study the class of dynamical systems formed by the iterates of
holomorphic functions. The main goals will be (1) a dynamical
classification of the stable components of a rational map, and (2) an
in-depth study of the Mandelbrot set. Only some familiarity with complex
analysis of one variable will be assumed. Course Meeting Time and LocationMonday, Wednesday and Friday 2:00 - 3:25 pm 187 Linde Course Instructor Contact Information and Office HoursCourse Schedule and Textbook

* You may use a computer or calculator while doing the homework, but may not refer to this as justification for your work. For example, "by Mathematica" is not an acceptable justification for deriving one equation from another. Also, since computers and calculators will not be allowed on the exams, it's best not to get too dependent on them. |
