James 'Jim' Prather
May 31, 1947 - June 1, 2016

James Prather, 69, passed away on June 1, 2016, following complications.  Prather was a decorated Marine who served in Vietnam, a member of the Yorba Linda Masonic Lodge, leader of the local Veterans Charities and President of the Lakebed Freedom Association for the prevention of high density development.
 
Brother James Prather served as a Master Mason for 34 year.  He was initiated on June 10, 1981, passed on December 7, 1981 and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on April 6, 1982.  He became a member of the Masonic Hospital Visitors Program in 2015 and attended the Grand Lodge Annual Communication from 2010-2016.
 
On November 3, 2010, Prather received the Hiram Award, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a brother, recognizing his work for fellow veterans for giving unselfishly of his time, talents and energy for the betterment of his Lodge and Freemasonry.  He celebrated his 25th Anniversary Award on November 3, 2010.
 
Prather is most remembered for his vigil to Veterans and the creator of the Masonic Family Helping Veterans.  He was a Scottish Rite Mason, a Knight of Saint Andrew and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, at Yorba Linda.
 
Brother Jim was laid to rest  on Monday, June 20, at Arlington Riverside Memorial Cemetery 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside.
