(2010 Race Recap)
Well, what can I say but "What a race!" While old man winter left us a bit of snow on the course, the weather was outstanding yesterday. Here is a spreadsheet of the results.
This morning, I ran the course between the Little Falls aid station and the Opekiska aid station and found NO trash! THANKS to everyone for leaving the rail-trail just as we found it.
We would personally like to thank YOU, the runners for making this inaugural year a great success. Because of you, we cut checks for $1,900 each to both the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the Christian Help Food Pantry. You all made a difference in other people's lives yesterday. YAHOO!
By the way, a delivery of leftover food from the race headquarters was donated to the Bartlett House Homeless Shelter in Morgantown this morning. Here again, you all made a difference in other people's lives!
Also, here are pictures from the Opekiska aid station. In between pouring water and calling out times, I tried to get a picture of each and every one of you. Dannielle and I decided rather than bring in a pricey photo service that would email you annoying sales pitches every week, we would do things the "Mason-Dixon Madness" way and make sure you got a photo for nothing. If you have pictures you would like to share or blog reports, then don't hesitate to contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I will throw a link on here pronto. Check back later on for these updates.
Finally, we hope to see you in the wintery wilds of West Virginia again next year. Happy holidays to you all!

The Mason-Dixon Madness 50K Run (MDM 50K) is a USA Track and Field Association sanctioned running event open to everyone that showcases the Yough River Rail-Trail. MDM 50K is an out-and-back course of predominantly crushed limestone. Starting in Boston, the course runs parallel to the beautiful Yough River, this run is sure to be scenic . If the weather conditions are right, then you might have a fast race on this flat course. However, given that this is a winter run, you never know when the "madness" can begin!
As with last year we will feature a Civil War-style competition. Choose your side! Who will win the battle between the North and the South?!
Registration and Fees
The $55 fee includes a long-sleeve technical shirt (S-XL), aid station supplies, a nice goodie bag, and post race refreshments at the finish line. Last day to register and guarantee a shirt is Saturday, November 15, 2011. After that, shirts are available while supplies last. There is NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

We also would like to thank for their cooperation in helping us launch this event!
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the Christian Help Food Pantry of Morgantown, WV.
Last year we raised over $5000. This level of donation provides many thousands of working families in more than 15 counties with desperatly needed nutritios food. Tgus kevek orivudes iver 4800 bags of grocery products annually, helping to keep hunger out of the homes of children and seniors.
Runners will start at the Boston Fire Hall and head south on the Yough River Rail-Trail. Eventually, you will be running in a winding, rural, river valley. This portion of the course is remote and truly beautiful! You might even bump into deer, turkeys, and geese. After roughly 15.5 miles, you will turn around and head back to the finish line at Boston Fire Hall.
The run will have 5 aid stations: approximately every 5 miles
The following course map displays the locations of the aid stations along the course. For those that desire more exactitude, here's a Google Earth file with overlaid mileposts as measured by GPS on a Cyclometer. An additional general map of the Mon River Rail-Trail has graciously been provided by the Mon River Trails Conservancy.
Here are the aid station directions for those of you with family, friends, or crew support.
Restrooms are available at:
Aid Station Details
Aid stations will be stocked with water, HEED sports drink, soda, pretzels, potato chips, zingers and pbj sandwiches. Note there is an aid station approximately every 4.5 to 5.5 miles.
This run is intended to be fun. However, to successfully complete the race the finishing time must be less than 8 hours.
Carry a water bottle, a few gels, and some TP. Depending on your pace, it may be awhile between aid stations.
This is a winter run on a semi-remote course! Plan and dress accordingly to allow for various weather conditions.
Do not drop out without telling a race director or aid station worker. Otherwise, we will be looking for you!
Parking and Transportation
Limited parking will be available at the start/finish area located at Boston Fire Hall. Carpooling is encouraged. See their website for directions. Directions are also available on Google Maps by typing in "Boston, Pa + Fire Hall".
No transportation will be provided from anywhere along the course to the finish line. You will need to arrange your own transportation. All aid stations are easily accessible by car but parking is limited.
We have procured rooms at local hotels for runners coming in from out of town.
