Hi, my name is Dr. Mary Touton.  I am quite pleased to be teaching at Biology at Hartnell this semester as an adjunct faculty member.  My background includes a B.S. in Chemistry from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from UCLA.  I spent many years teaching in the public schools at all levels from elementary school to high school.  This is my third year as an instructor at Hartnell.

Biology has always been my favorite subject to teach.  Life impacts us daily and learning about life processes can help us live fuller and more enriched lives.  I hope to impart a desire in my students to use what they learned in this class to understand what’s happening in the living world better, to make wise choices with their lives, and to become knowledgeable caretakers of the Earth.   Biology is one of the most rapidly advancing sciences.  Although BIO 10 is a general biology course, details will be included that provide insights into how scientists operate and how the current understanding impacts modern life.  My aim is to make students literate in reading and understanding current advances in biology.
