In 2011, the program became an official MLA program, co-sponsored by CLES and CSD.

In the spirit of Frederick Melcher and the first Newbery committee, we hope that the Maryland Mock Newbery will accomplish three main goals: stimulate local recognition for great children’s literature; hone our skills in recognizing, selecting and defending good writing for children; and ultimately serve the interests of young readers in Maryland.
1. Readers are invited to suggest recommended titles throughout the year. To suggest a title, please email Rachael Vilmar - rachael AT esrl DOT org. Titles will be added to this site as they are suggested.
2. We will also be discussing eligible titles at our blog.
3. We will publish the final reading list in November. Near that time, the MLA office will begin to accept registrations for the Maryland Mock Newbery discussion.
5. The MMN discussion will take place in January 2013. More information about the program will be sent out to participants as they register.
