Latest Paintings & News
Time flies...
I've no idea where the time disappears but it has a habit of sneaking away without me noticing. It's been a very busy year so far with numerous successful exhibitions, the annual Forest and Valley Open Studios event and I've also been honoured to have my work on display at the International Eisteddfod held this year at Abergavenny. It is so wonderful that so many people enjoy my work and I'm delighted that it is now hanging on the walls of art lovers all over the world. Here are just a handful of paintings that have only just got been uploaded to my website. There is a bit of a backlog and many more to come...
On Film
Just a quick post to let you know that an excellent local documentary film-maker - Woodrow Morris - has put together a short film about me, my life, my work and what inspires me. You can see it by clicking on the video below or you can use the permanent link on the About Mary page of my website.

As promised...
As I promised earlier this week, here are several more pieces of work as I endeavour to catch up with my website - there are many more to come! Two of these paintings mention The Gidley Arms - a lovely place from my younger days while working in South Moulton in Devon. The very latest is Welcome My Dears to The Gidley Arms - inspired by a recent chat with a lovely lady who now owns what was once the pub and is researching its history. The happy memories of the pub, the people who ran it and the lovely warm atmosphere of working men enjoying a quiet pint at the end of the day has been an inspiration for a number of my paintings over the years.
Time to catch up...
What can I say...? I've been sadly lacking in keeping my website up to date, but I promise to do much better over the coming months. I've still been painting away in the background and meeting new art-loving friends through my paintings, but I now have a bit of a backlog of paintings to get up onto my website. Some of them have been in galleries and sold already while others are entirely unseen outside of my studio - all will go onto the site over the coming weeks. Here's a few to begin with...
Open Studios
The annual Forest and Valley Open Studios event is in full swing. I've met some lovely people who have been so kind and appreciative of my work during the event - thank you all for your very generous comments. It's not over yet of course... I'm open 10am-6pm every day until the 2015 art trail officially closes for me at 6pm on Sunday, July 26. But of course, if you can't make it during the event itself, just get in contact and phone me to arrange a time to suit you. There is always new work coming and going, so there is plenty to see. I look forward to meeting you on a fine summer's day in the Wye Valley very soon. |
Keeping Busy
It's been a while since my last posting, but only because I've been so busy with various exhibitions and delivering work to/collecting from galleries. As I write this, I have work at two separate exhibitions. Today (Sunday. September 28) is the last day of Art in Penallt 2014 - a lovely exhibition now in its fourth year with a range of really high quality artists displaying their work. I also have a solo exhibition ongoing at the moment at Taurus Crafts in Lydney which has been very well received. It's lovely to see so many of my paintings (over 40) in one place at the same time. The Taurus exhibition runs on until October 12 so there's still plenty of time if you get a chance to pop in and see it. And on top of all that, I've also been doing a fair amount of painting too - watch this space and I'll put up some of my latest works soon. |
Celebrating a great writer
Not only do I have the Forest & Valley Open Studios event underway, but I'm also honoured to have my work on show at Fountain Fine Art in Llandeilo at the moment. The exhibition opened last week and is a celebration of Dylan Thomas' life and works. I was approached to take part by the gallery owners and I've taken my inspiration from one of Dylan's most widely known works - Under Milk Wood. It's a joint show with a number of other very talented artists, all of us taking different aspects of his writings as our source. If you can get to Llandeilo I'd thoroughly recommend it but if you can't take a look online: Exhibition - In My Craft or Sullen Art - Dylan Thomas Exhibition at Fountain Fine Art - 12/07/2014 to 09/08/2014 |
Open Doors
Just a quick post to remind everyone that from now until next Sunday (July 20, 2014) the doors to my home are open for anybody to come along, have a chat and view my work as part of the Forest & Valley Open Studios event. I'm open 10am-6pm from July 12-20 inclusive and I'd love to see you. I have plenty of work on show - some unframed pieces and a lot of framed work, much of which has not been exhibited before. I am of course happy to welcome you any time if you can't make it to Open Studios - just ring me on 01594 530324 to arrange a suitable date and time. See you soon. |
Summertime swallows
There is nothing that sums up the sight and sound of a British summer to me than seeing and hearing swallows speeding through the air, building their nests, feeding their youngsters and seemingly forever on the wing. I love them.
