ARIANNA MARTINELLI

I was born and grew up in Milan where I graduated in Economics and Social Studies at Bocconi University.

Afterwards I decided to leave the foggy Milan and to move to the rainy Brighton where I earned a Master Degree in Industry and Innovation Analysis from SPRU. As I liked rain and green landscape I decided to continue my education in the Netherlands at ECIS (Eindhoven Centre for Innovation Studies). I successfully completed my PhD in June 2010 with a thesis about the dynamics of technological discontinuities.

Meanwhile, I spent almost two years at the EIC at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena.

Finally, I decided that I had enough bad and cold weather, so I moved back to Pisa where since November 2019 I am associate professor at the Economic Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa.

I am interested in several aspects of the economics of technical change. My research is rather broad and characterised by the use patent data. In particular, I focus on: the relationship between technological change and industrial dynamics, FDI from emerging countries and technological catching up and technological standards and IPR.
