21 Minutes

This is a "just-in-time" resource for preK-3rd grade teachers at Central School. These resources are aligned to NETS-T national standards and support the district's goals of technology integration and increased rigor in the classroom.

Why "21"?
"21" is used for three reasons. First, it refers to 21st century skills. These are skills students need in order to be successful in the 21st century workforce. Second, we know teachers are tight on time. All sessions will be taught within 21 minutes. Optional sandbox time will be available for teachers who would like additional support.Lastly, the course is comprised of 21 modules, each containing definitions, tutorials, hands-on activities, and resources.

What are the objectives of 21 Minutes?

to establish a common technology language among staff
to encourage purposeful integration of technology that supports student learning
to offer multiple opportunities for collaboration and support among peers
to understand how to use building hardware, software and online resources effectively
to build "just-in-time support" for technology integration through online resources
to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility
"to model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments" (NETS-T, 1D)
" to design, develop, and/or evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes identified in the NETS-S".(NETS-T, 2)
to learn how to "engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources" (NETS-T, 1B)
"to exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society" (NETS-T, 3)

Who are the instructors?
Each module will be taught by a building or district teacher who is proficient in the content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and/or technological knowledge needed for that particular topic . This will foster a collaborative atmosphere and guarantee additional opportunities for "just-in-time" support. Instructors will be reimbursed for their time.

Teachers will complete all 21 modules through in-person or online professional development and will receive 4 CEUs at the completion of the course. Teachers will participate in hands-on activities and submit an e-portfolio reflection for each module. These reflections will be reviewed by the instructor and prompt feedback returned.
