Mark audtioned for Pop Idol as no 10044.  He finished second place in the second series (and went for the audition on the second day) of the show to Michelle McManus and third was Sam Nixon, who he teamed with for their two single releases under the name Sam & Mark.  They had a number one 'With A Little Help From My Friends', which was number one for a week and they they released 'The Sun Has Come Your Way' but this only reached number nineteen and the idea of an album and their career was dropped.  The singles were released in Feb and May 2004.

and Mark's greatest feeling about the show?

Was the final fifty, just being on that theatre stage and being told you were being put through was amazing.  It was the greatest feeling ever becase he knew he would be singing on tv and the public would decide.  If he wasn't good enough then fair enough, but it was the public that made the decision.
