CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS:   

You should be reading your assigned chapters.  Be sure to pay attention to homework writing due dates... no late homework will be accepted.  Also you should be studying and preparing for our Final Midterm Exam covering chapters 9-15.    See the syllabus for specific due dates and deadlines. 


HOMEWORK  WRITING/ DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENTS:   All  assignments must be typed... no handwritten work will be accepted.  Assignments must be handed-in at the beginning of the class, or during the class or small group discussion .  Late work is not accepted... so please do not be late to class on dates that an assignment is due.  Also, I do not accept emailed work, because students must be present for discussion in order to get credit for these assignments.   Students must be present for discussion, and must have the typed paper with them during discussion in order to get credit for the entire assignment.

 Write your own opinions and words for this assignment.  Do not research, and do not paraphrase the textbook.                

                 
July 20:        Start reading chapters 9 -15 in your textbook                 

Writing / Discussion #6 due beginning of class period.  Bring a typed paper ( 200 word approx.) answering the following prompt.
What is the state of race relations in the U.S. or the world today?  Give examples of the good, the bad, and/or the ugly?  Discuss some of the racial problems we are
still struggling with, and some suggestions as to how to deal with them.  You can also discuss some ways in which we have made progress with race relations.

Writing / Discussion #7 due beginning of class period.  Bring a typed paper ( 200 word approx.) answering the following prompt.
Discuss some of the gender stereotypes about men and women.  Is there a double standard when it comes to sexuality?  Discuss some of the ways in which men and
women are treated differently in the family, workplace, society, culture, etc.

Writing/ Discussion #8 due beginning of class period.  Bring a typed paper ( 200 word approx.) answering the following prompt.
Discuss some of the problems families face today.  What are some things that society should be doing to help the "family"?  What can social institutions do to help
families... what do you want from government, schools, churches, media, corporate America, etc. ?

Writing / Discussion #9 due beginning of class period.  Bring a typed paper ( 200 word approx.) answering the following prompt.
Discuss some problems in education today.  What are some problems with schools or the education system that you would like to see fixed?  What would it take
to fix these problems?


Writing / Discussion #10 due beginning of class period.  Bring a typed paper ( 200 word approx.) answering the following prompt.
Should the world be concerned about over-population?  How serious is this issue ?  What kind of problems does or could over-population bring?  What effective solutions
can you offer
to fight against population problems?
