Hi Folks,

We’re enjoying the pleasant days of the late Summer. Yesterday, Jan and I paddled kayaks on the beautiful Mohawk River beside the old Erie Canal from Kiwannis Park in Rotterdam Junction up to the Bateaux launch at Mabee Farm Historic site. Just a couple of weeks ago I had a great time playing at the Howling at the Moon Concert at Mabee Farm with Everest Rising. It was nice to see the old Dutch Barn and the colonial Mabee farmhouse from the vantage point of the river. It reminded me of the fun times I had playing music on the Mohawk river on the old tour boat, the Wofford, which is now in Florida.

Tomorrow, September 1, I will be playing at a more intimate venue. Starting at 7PM I’ll be at my now semi-regular first Thursday appearance at the Moon and River Café, 115 South Ferry South Ferry St Schenectady, NY, 518 382 1938. http://www.moonandrivercafe.com

I hope to see you there or at a future appearance.

Bring a lawn chair, some insect repellent, and maybe a cool drink. Due to a jam packed calendar, this will be my first appearance in my hometown this Summer concert season. Jan and I are just back from a cross-country road trip. We had a nice visit with our son, his wife and our grandson in Nebraska, and went with them to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. One highlight for me was the chance to play music at a campfire overlooking the beautiful town of Crested Butte, under a clear starry sky. It showed what inspired John Denver to write Rocky Mountain High. We travelled back through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where we hiked to see waterfalls and lakes. We took a boat cruise on Lake Superior to view the Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore, what unique beauty. Driving the Trans Canada Highway we saw a bear cross the road. We had a nice visit to Canada’s lovely capital city, Ottawa. After a one and a half hour wait to cross the border in the Thousand Islands, we had a good ride home. A great trip.

I was happy to arrive home to a message inviting me to play at the Delanson Village Gazebo in the center of town this Thursday August 4, 6:30-8:30 PM. So bring your lawn chair or blanket and join me for music on Main St in Delanson. It’s nice to play in my home town. Hi Folks,

The big weekend is approaching. I'm playing at the Rhythm on the Ridge Festival Saturday at Maple Ski Ridge in Rotterdam. My set will be opening the festival on the Lodge Stage at 11:300 am. Gates open at 10 am. I may start a few minutes early to try to get in a few more songs. It's sweet! Two stages of music tap-rooted in Acoustic-Americana style, with plenty of branches growing in the Bluegrass, Celt, Country, Folk and Old-Timey direction...banjos, mandos, dobros, dulcimers, fiddles, guitars, bells, jugs, kazoos, chimes, flutes, (even the occasional pedal steel!). The ROTR recipe is so good because its equal parts fun and excitement between fest attendees and the musicians. http://sites.google.com/site/rhythmontheridge/

Hi Folks,

I'm very happy to be performing again this year at the Rhythm on the Ridge Music Festival at beautiful Maple Ski Ridge in Rotterdam NYon Saturday June 11 at 11:30 AM. There will be 2 stages of music, the outdoor Ridge Stage for larger bands, and the indoor Lodge Stage for solo's, duos and trios. There will be 20 acts throughout Saturday on the stages as well as roaming musicians outside. I'll be opening the festival at 11:30 AM on the Ridge Stage, and I can't wait. There will be rough camping for those who want to stay over Saturday night, and a Sunday morning Pickin and Pancakes open mic. Regular tickets are $15 for adults with a $2 discount if you bring a non-perishable food donation for the Northeast Regional Food Bank. Children under 12 are free when accompanied by a paying adult. I also have a limited number of VIP band discount tickets available for $5. If you'd like to purchase them, I'll need the money by June 1 so I can add your name(s) to my VIP list and send it in. You then just show an ID to the gate attendant to be checked off the list, and you're in.

There will be food, crafts vendors and great original music from local artists. This is a fun way to spend a beautiful Summer weekend. (Last year it poured rain, but we had a great time indoors anyway). I've attached the festival flyer and artist schedule. Visit the festival websites.

Hi Folks,

I'm hoping that the third time will be the charm. I'm scheduled to play this Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Pasta Factory 952 Troy-Schenectady Rd. (Peter Harris Plaza) in Latham They have a good menu, reasonable prices. Live music every Wednesday. Here's a link to their website http://www.pastafactorylatham.com/ . I'll be appearing here about once every other month on a Wednesday. On this first full day of Spring, it's snowing pretty hard up here on the hill, but I'm hoping it will be rain in the valley. I also hope that Wednesday will not see significant winter weather, but watch your e-mail just in case for last-minute cancellations. I'm still a little leery given the history with this appearance, but I hope to see you Wednesday for some fun, food and music.

Thinking warmer thoughts, I'll be playing again this Summer aboard the beautiful river cruise tour boat the Wofford. The Wofford is celebrating her 70'th birthday this year and offering special discount cruise prices. Check out their website at www.captainschoiceny.com for the calendar or to book your own private cruise. Cruising along the beautiful Mohawk or scenic Hudson rivers listening to music is a fun way to spend a Summer afternoon. The Captains and First mate would love to hear from you.

Sorry Folks,

It seems this Pasta Factory gig is jinxed. I just received word that there was a scheduling mix-up, and now I'll be playing at the Pasta Factory on Wednesday March 23 instead. I know many of you had planned on the 16th and I'm very sorry about this last minute change. I hope you'll still be able to join me on March 23. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Folks,

For those of us who only shovel and don't ski, Winter keeps rearing it's ugly head. Jan and I had to cancel our cruise to a warmer climate because she was ill. We had another 19 inches of snow up here on the hill this past week, so we were shoveling instead of snorkeling. But, take heart, March is arriving and it will soon be Spring. If you'd like to take a relaxing break from shoveling, join me for music Thursday evening starting at 7:00 PM (note this is a time change. The newspaper will probably say 8:00).

The Moon and River Cafe is a great local live music venue at 115 South Ferry St. Schenectady, NY (518)382-1938. They serve mostly vegetarian food, but do have some chicken and turkey, sandwiches and dishes. You can check out their menu and calendar at http://www.moonandrivercafe.com . I hope to see you there.

Well the boating season is officially over, and I'll miss playing aboard the Wofford until next season. Time to rake leaves and start up the snow blowers, yuck. Yet, there's still musical fun to be had. Tonight, I'll be playing at the Coffee House at the St Boniface Episcopal Church at 5248 Western Ave. Guilderland ( a little west of Hannaford). There will be some wonderful musical artists including the beautiful-voiced Kathi Reynolds, the great acoustic duo 2-Late, and the super-talented progressive bluegrass band, Everest Rising. The show starts at 7:00 pm. The donation is $5.00, and there will be desserts for sale. I know from last year that the folks at St. Boniface can make some tasty treats. I hope to see you there.

October 4, 2010,

Thanks to those who joined me at the Pasta Factory last week. It was a fun time, and I hope to be there again soon. I'll be at the Moon and River Cafe (115 South Ferry St. Schenectady, NY (518)382-1938.) this Thursday, Oct 7 with Jody Orlando. Jody will be playing from 8:00-8:45, and I'll play from 8:45-9:45. We'll do a few songs together too. Good food and good music, a winning combination.

Cruises on the Wofford $15 are scheduled for Saturday October 9, 1-3 PM (boarding at 12:30) at Shady Harbor Marina (New Baltimore) and Saturday Oct 16, 1:00-2:00 and 2:30-3:30 $10 from the Troy Boat Launch. These cruises are fun.

September 27, 2010

Autumn has arrived with some much needed rain. This gloomy weather evokes the desire for "comfort food" like pasta. What timing. I'll be appearing at the Pasta Factory at 952 Troy-Schenectady Rd. (Peter Harris Plaza) in Latham This Wednesday, September 29 from 6 to 8 PM.

They have a good menu, reasonable prices, and I hear the music is quite good(self serving plug). Here's a link to their website http://www.pastafactorylatham.com . This is the first of what I hope will be more appearances here, so please join me if you can.

Remember to check my website http://home.rr.com/markbaptiste for news, and drop me a line when you get a minute. Hope to see you soon.

September 1, 2010.

Summer is hanging on strong. 3 days in a row over ninety in Albany, but it's a little cooler up on the hill. We had a great camping trip to the Adirondacks (though I had poison ivy bad) and a rainy trip to Gloucester and Rockport last week. I've played some fun cruises aboard the Wofford, with more private charters scheduled for the Fall. Check out www.captainschoiceny.com if you'd like to charter. It's a great way to get together with friends and family.

I'm very happy to have been booked to play at the Moon and River Cafe in Schenectady at 8:00 PM on the first Thursday from September through December. It's a great Cafe and a big supporter of local musicians. Stop by if you can. I hope to see you soon.

I was honored to have Jack Aroian come all the way from Massachusetts to play his base with me. It was the first time we've played together in many years, and was a real treat. Jody Orlando also graced us with her beautiful singinging. Thanks to all who came. This Sunday, November 22, I'll be performing in a benefit concert for the Regional Food Bank. As the holiday season begins, it's important for us to think of and help out the local people who depend on the Food Bank. You can help by attending the Songwriters Showcase: Singing for Their Supper Benefit Concert. The event starts at 2 pm and features local song writers. Right now, I'm scheduled to begin performing around 2:15. I'll be playing four songs, as will several other song writers. Featured acts will be, 2Late and J. Peter Yakel and Flood Road. Admission for this event is $7 or $5 with a food donation for the food bank. Location: First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, 405 Washington Ave, Albany, NY. Looks like it's pretty close to where Washington meets Western, near Robin Street and the Downtown SUNY campus. There should be plenty of parking on Sunday afternoon. Concessions provided by the New Russia Cultural Center. There will be good music, good food and lot's of fun. Best of all, we'll be helping those in need.

Although next Wednesday, the 25'th, is the fourth Wednesday of the month, Chrissie Van Wormer and I have decided to cancel Acoustic Open Mic at Yours that day, since it is the day before Thanksgiving. Our experience has been that nobody shows up on that day. So enjoy the Holiday, and plan to join us for the next Acoustic Open Mic at Yours on the second Wednesday of December. That's December 9.

Happy Summer (I think we might hit 80 today). Even though it's cool, we're having a great Summer, and I hope you are too. We've just returned from a camping trip to Cape Cod. Beautiful weather except for one rainy night. We had to bail out the new tent in the morning. We swam at a bay side beach and Jan swam in a pond. The ocean side beach was too cold (56 degrees). We rode our bikes on a nice trail from the Salt Pond Visitors Center in Eastham to Coast Guard Beach. This is just a quick update on some schedule changes. River tours on the Wofford This Thursday July 16 have been cancelled.

I'll be playing at the "Hot Tunes Hard Times" benefit concert for Landis Arboretum 174 Lape Rd Esperance NY 12066 at 2:00 PM Sunday August 23. An afternoon in the open air with area bands at the Meetinghouse at Landis. Stretch out on the lawn, sit in the meetinghouse, relax, and enjoy the music at the 548-acre Arboretum. Produced by Walter Wouk (Finnegan’s Wake, www.finneganswakemusic.org) for the benefit of Landis, the Capital Region’s Arboretum. $10/person. www.Landisarboretum.org

Remember I'm playing solo at Victory Lap Grill and Creamery at 8175 Duanesburg Road Delanson, NY this Friday July 17 7-9 PM. I'll be playing there again with Friendly Folk Friday July 31 7-9PM. Music and ice cream, yes.

The complete revised and updated Calendar of Appearances is on the home page. I hope to see you at a show or cruise.

I’ve got concert cruises scheduled from the Mabee Farm in Rotterdam Junction on August 1st, August 22nd and October 17th. These will include a half hour of educational narration and a half hour of my music beginning at 11 AM. Again check the Wofford calendar at www.CaptainsChoiceNY.com for details.

I hope you are well and happy. My life is good. We recently returned from a whirlwind Easter vacation trip to Massachusetts, Nebraska and New Hampshire to visit family. We had a great time. Jan and I attended the recent Colin Hay concert in Albany. Many remember him from the band, Men at Work, (“The Land Down Under”), but he is an amazing acoustic guitarist and solo performer. My oldest son, Mike introduced me to his solo work when he and his then bride-to-be, Kat asked me to sing his song “Waiting for My Real Life to Begin” at their wedding. It’s now one of Jan and my favorite songs. So it was especially moving when Colin sang it as his encore.

Jan and I are also going to be attending a performance by some of our favorite musicians, Robin and Linda Williams and their Fine Group in Massachusetts. So we’re having lots of fun listening to live music.

I’ve been working on my next cd, and have actually recorded 6 of the new songs; though I need to work on mixing and leveling. Recording is not as much fun for me as playing. Speaking of that, I’m very excited to have 3 future performances scheduled, and I’m working on lining up more. I’ll be performing again in a solo appearance at Samuel's Coffee House in Alplaus on Saturday, May 16, 7-9PM, 258 Alplaus Ave. Alplaus, NY (518) 399-9013. They have great coffee beverages and goodies. Their website is http://samuelscoffeehouse.org I’ll be singing songs from my current cd, In These Hills, some of my new ones, which will be on the next cd, and some of my favorites by other artists.

On Sunday June 7th, I’ll be sharing the opening set with my Yours open mic co-host Chrissie Van Wormer at the first concert in the Summer Howling at the Moon Series at Mabbee Farm www.mabeefarm.org on Rte 5S (1080 Main St) in Rotterdam Junction on the banks of the beautiful Mohawk River. We’ll be opening for the featured performers, the great bluegrass band, the Riverview Ramblers. The first part of the concert is scheduled for 6:30-7:45 PM. I’ll start at 6:30PM followed by Chrissie at about 6:50 PM. Other opening performers are yet to be announced. The Riverview Ramblers will go on at about 8:00 PM. It should be a great night of live music by the river.

I’m very excited about my solo appearance on Thursday August 13, 7-8 PM at the Altamont Fair www.altamontfair.com . This is a great three county fair representing Albany, Schenectady and Greene Counties. It will be lots of fun because I’ll get to see cows.

Don’t forget that Chrissie Van Wormer and I co-host Acoustic Open Mic at Yours Pleasant Sounds/Jazz Nightclub 145 Barrett Street (Off of State Street, 2 blocks East of Proctor's Theatre) Schenectady, NY 12305 (518)370-9865 Wednesday, May 13. We try for the second and fourth Wednesday of most months, weather and schedules permitting. Sign-up is 7:00 PM. Music begins at 7:30 PM. Bring and old song. Bring a new song, or just bring a friend to listen. We always have a good time, and we hope to see you there.

Make sure to check my website http://home.rr.com/markbaptiste for news and appearance updates. I hope to see you at one of my performances, but even if you can’t make it out, drop me an e-mail at markbaptiste@nyycap.rr.com. I’d love to hear from you.

Spring is here so things are looking up. I hope folks are shaking off the Winter blahs. Thanks to the friends who came out to see me at Samuel’s Coffee House on March 13. We had so much fun we’re doing it again. I’ll be appearing solo at Samuel’s on Saturday May 16 7-9 PM. It’s at 258 Alplaus Ave. Alplaus, NY (518) 399-9013. They have great coffee beverages and goodies. Their website is http://samuelscofeehouse.org I’ll be singing songs from my current cd, In These Hills, some of my new ones, which will be on the next cd, and some of my favorites. I hope to see you there.

Hold the date Sunday June 7. It looks like I’ll be playing a 20 minute solo set at the Mabee Farm “Howling at the Moon” concert. The Mabee Farm is a beautiful historic site on the Mohawk River in Rotterdam Junction operated by the Schenectady County Historical Society. They’re planning a series of Summer concerts on the Sunday closest to the full moon each month, outside if weather permits or in the barn if not. I’ve been tentatively scheduled to play at the first show on June 7. Stay tuned for details on the headline act and other performers.

March 05, 2009

The January appearance at the Flavour Café was lot’s of fun. Thanks to all who made it out to see Jody and me. We had to cancel the first open mic in February due to bad weather. We were lucky to be able to enjoy a warm cruise to the Caribbean a few weeks ago. Jan and I visited Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Thomas and Half Moon Cay. Great snorkeling and warm water were a wonderful way to relieve the winter blahs. I wrote two new songs. One may end up as a reggae tune. Since our return, it’s been very cold, and it’s beginning to feel like a long winter again. Spring will be here soon though, maybe the best time of year here.

I have a solo appearance at Samuel's Coffee House in Alplaus on Friday, March 13,

7-9PM, 258 Alplaus Ave. Alplaus, NY (518) 399-9013. They have great coffee beverages and goodies. We always have a good time.

I’ve begun recording my second cd. I hope it won’t take too long to complete.

This appearance was arranged by Dixie Moon Entertainment.

That ice storm was a beaut. I hope you and yours are safe and have power. I'm sorry if you tried to attend the Peaceful Acres benefit concert yesterday. It was cancelled due to the ice storm. The Acoustic Open Mic at Yours Pleasant Sounds/Jazz Nightclub is cancelled on Christmas eve. We'll resume them the second and fourth Wednesday of most months beginning Jan 14, 2009.

I'm not sure I like the template yet, but it has more room for song samples. That should be good in the future, once I get used to the new development tools. I continue to co-host the open mic at Yours Pleasant Sounds/Jazz Nightclub 145 Barrett Street (Off of State Street, 2 blocks east of Proctor's Theatre) Schenectady, NY 12305 (518)370-9865 with Chrissie Van Wormer on the second and fourth Wednesdays of most months.

I'm looking forward to appearing at the Bill Graham Farewell concert Sunday December 14 at Yours to benefit Peaceful Acres Horse Rescue Farm. I'll appear solo for 20 minutes. ( I think I'm the fourth act). The show starts at 2:00 PM Other musicians include, Chrissie Van Wormer, Kevin Wayne, Drew Jacobs, Bill Graham and 2 Late.

I'll be playing at the Flavour Cafe in Troy on Wednesday January 21 7-9 PM. This appearance was arranged by Dixie Moon Entertainment.

Well it was a rough summer. I spent most of it recovering from surgery, and for many weeks, I couldn’t even pick up my guitar. I’m happy to say that’s behind me now, and I’m feeling much better. Jan and I took a wonderful trip to visit family in Northern California and to Hawaii with good friends at the end of August. The most important news is that we’re grandparents for the first time. Wow! Our, grandson Jack was born to our son and his wife in Nebraska, and we can’t wait to get to visit them.

Musically things are getting back on track. I had a great time playing at the Northeast Country Music Association Writers' Workshop showcase at Mabee Farm on Sep 7. Thanks to all those who made the trip to hear me play, especially those long distance travelers. With the retirement of Bill Graham, I'll be co-hosting the open mic at Yours Pleasant Sounds/Jazz Night club in Schenectady with Chrissie VanWormer on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Thanks, Bill for your years of hosting and encouragement to local musicians. I look forward to working with Chrissie. I’m happy that I’ve got several appearances lined up. The first is Saturday Nov 1, 7-9 PM at the Victory Lap Grill and Creamery , 8175 DUANESBURG ROAD · DELANSON · NEW YORK · 12053 · 518.275.8978. That night I’ll be playing with a group of friends called Friendly Folk. We’ll play some old folk and rock favorites as well as a few original tunes.

I have a solo gig at Samuels Coffee House in Alplaus on Friday, Nov 7, 7-9PM, 258 Alplaus Ave. Alplaus, NY , ( 518) 399-9013.

I’m singing solo on Friday Nov 27 7-9 PM at the Victory Lap Grill and Creamery , 8175 DUANESBURG ROAD · DELANSON · NEW YORK · 12053 · 518.275.8978. What a great combination, good food, music and ICE CREAM, and best of all it’s in my home town. Check out their website at http://www.midtel.net/~grayse/index.htm

I can’t wait. I’ll be singing songs from my current cd, In These Hills , some of my new ones, which will be on the next cd, and some of my favorites. I hope you can come to one or more of these appearances.

Sorry it*s been a while since the last update. I*ve been dealing with some health problems which have kept me pretty busy. I*m going to have surgery on June 30. My music activities (and most others) will have to slow down for a while during recovery. On the positive side, we celebrated our daughter*s graduation from college, we had a fun camping trip, had a nice visit with family during a memorial service in Rockport and I*ve been writing some new songs. I*m very happy to have been invited to perform at the *grand opening* festivities at the Duanesburg Area Community Center. (221 Victoria Drive Delanson, NY 12053 Office: 518. 895.9500) on Saturday June 21. It*s off of route 395 which is off of Route 20 in Delanson. I*ll be playing from noon to 2:00 pm. The Samuels gig in Alplaus was fun. Thanks to all who came out. I*ll be playing there again solo on Nov 7. There*s also a good chance I*ll be performing at the Writers Workshop Concert at the Mabee Farm Historic Site in Rotterdam Junction on a date yet to be set in September. So keep checking for a confirmed date and other appearances. I hope to have time and energy this Summer to begin recording my second CD. Copies of the first CD, In These Hills are still available. March is gone and April almost, and Spring is here. Our house suffered a great loss on Aprill 11. Boo, our beloved little cat passed away after a valiant struggle. Jan and I share the sadness, but we have many happy memories of Boo. She*s immortalized in my song *In These Hills*, and there are some pictures of her in the photo section of the website Click Here Speaking of websites, my daughter Melissa did a nice one for me for a course she*s taking. You can see it at www.markbaptistemusic.com

I*ll be playing at Samuels Coffee House 258 Alplaus Ave (off Maple Ave Glenville) in Alplaus Friday May 2, 7-9 PM with my friends Kevin Wayne and Bill Graham. I hope to see you there. It should be a lot of fun. Samuels is a great venue with tasty baked goods and nice coffee drinks.

Jan and I had a great trip to Utah (Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park) and then visited friends in Tucson. We stayed at a nice Bed and Breakfast called Casa de Angeles in Tucson http://casadeangeles.com/ You should try it if you*re out that way.

Hope you*re all well. Drop me an email at markbaptiste@nycap.rr.com if you get a chance. Be sure to check out the upcoming performances page for future performance dates and the home page for instructions for ordering my CD *In These Hills*.

The short month of February has flown by. My wife and I enjoyed a great vacation cruise to the Caribbean (Half Moon Cay, St Thomas, San Juan and Nassau). We both had a great time being warm, swimming and snorkeling. We*ve both also been fighting colds. I*ve missed a couple of open mics due to ice and snowy roads, but I plan to get back into the swing now. I*ve been moderately productive musically, completing 4 new songs. I hope to have enough to start on a new CD soon. Meanwhile, sales of the current CD, *In These Hills*, have been *brisk*. Thanks to those of you who*ve bought one, I hope you like the music.

I*m honored to have been invited to perform a song at the 49*th Annual Evening of Music presented by the Central Bridge United Methodist Church on Sunday March 6 at 6:30 PM. I plan to play *In these Hills*. I*ll be playing Samuels Coffee House again Friday May 2. We*re looking forward to seeing Robin and Linda Williams play in Cobleskill this Friday at the Golding Park Cafe. Keep checking the website http://home.nycap.rr.com/markbaptiste for future appearances. Drop an email at markbaptiste@nycap.rr.com. It*s always nice to hear from you. Thanks for checking in. To all who attended the CD release party and/or bought a copy of, *In These Hills*, THANK YOU! What a great night. We filled the Music Hall at Yours A Pleasant Sounds/Jazz Club on Saturday. It was a wonderful crowd filled with friends and family, and I had a great time performing. Thanks to Joe Mann, the owner of Yours, for inviting me to play. Also thanks to Jody Monachino-Orlando for singing with me. The night was truly a dream come true for me.

Keep checking the website http://home.nycap.rr.com/markbaptiste for future appearance dates, photos, news and music samples, and watch your e-mail for updates. I*ve started writing some new songs already.

Happy New Year! I had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. I hope your holidays were fun too. I have great news. My debut CD, In These Hills is ready. I*ve burned a bunch of copies and printed labels, covers and liner notes (harder than I thought). The most exciting thing to me is that Joe Mann, owner of Yours a Pleasant Sounds/Jazz Night club has invited me to have the CD release party at his lovely establishment at 145 Barrett St in Schenectady. It will be on Saturday, Jan 26 from 8-10:30 PM. The $5 admission fee entitles each attendee to purchase 1 copy of, In These Hills at the release party price of $5. (Additional copies will be available at the regular price of $10 (add $2.50 S&H if mailed)). Remember, I*ll also be appearing with Kevin Wayne and Bill Graham at Samuels Coffee House in Alplaus on Friday Jan 11 from 7-9 PM. I*ll probably be playing a half hour set starting sometime around 7:30. It should be a fun show. Keep checking the website for new dates, photos, and new music. Drop me a line at markbaptiste@nycap.rr.com if you*d like to order a CD or just want to say hi.

PS I*m feeling a little under the weather today so I won*t be going to the open mic tonight at Old Songs in Voorheesville. I hope to be there Feb 6.

Hope to see you soon.

Tuesday December 11, 2007

I hope you*re having a joyful holiday season. My music is going great, and life is good for me. I*ve written 7 new songs since July. With those and some other originals, I*m putting the finishing touches on my first CD, titled, In These Hills. I hope to have it ready to distribute by the end of December. I*m very happy that I*ve been invited to join local songwriters Kevin Wayne and Bill Graham for a performance at Samuels Coffee House on Friday, January 11 from 7-9 PM. The address is 258 Alplaus Ave. Alplaus, NY 12008. I*ll probably be playing for about a half hour. It should be a lot of fun. Keep checking the website for future appearances and other news. Stay well and enjoy the holidays. Drop an e-mail if you have time.

Thursday November 15, 2007

There was lots of fun at the open mic at Yours Jazz Club in Schenectady last night. We missed Bill Graham and Chrissie Van Wormer, the regular hosts, but Kevin Wayne did a fine job hosting. I played *And I Love Her*, by the Beatles (inspired by the Rain performance on Sunday). I also played 2 of my new ones, *It*s Not for me to Say*, and *Red Sun at Night*. I*m trying to get going on recording for the CD, much to learn and experiment with. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Drop a note if you get the chance.

Monday November 12, 2007

Happy Veteran*s Day (a day late). I*ve been delinquent in getting to my updates. A week ago Saturday was a prolific song writing day for me. Sometimes I wake up with a melody in my head. I*ve found that if I*m too lazy to get up right away and record it, I lose it. So when I awoke at 4:00 AM with a tune playing in my head which I*d forgotten once before, I jumped out of bed and stumbled down the stairs to record it. Now you can see why you need to have sympathy for Jan. She*s married to a crazy man. Since I was already awake, I decided to work on some other tunes I had cooking. By 6:30, I had finished writing 3 new songs. Wonderlust, All I Know is I Love You, and It*s Not for me to Say. This was the most productive morning (musically), I*ve had. I hope the flow of music continues. Now I have enough original songs to work on a CD. So I need to learn the songs well and develop my recording skill. A daunting task, but I*m looking forward to it.

I had a great time last Wednesday playing at the open mic at Old Songs in Vorheesville hosted by Kate Blain. What a great group of musicians and a nice audience. I played A Pillow in the Car, Red Sun at Night, and introduced It*s Not for me to Say. Yesterday, Jan and I attended the show Rain: The Beatles Experience, 5 amazing performers who reproduce Beatles music live, note for note. What a tremendous performance. It really brought back great memories. I plan to play this Wednesday at the open mic at Yours Jazz Club in Schenectady, hosted by Chrissy VanWormer and Bill Graham. Keep checking this website for updates and upcoming performances. Thanks for stopping by. Drop me an e-mail when you get a minute. It*s always fun to hear from friends.

Tuesday October 30, 2007

I had a great time last week playing at the first open mic at Borders Books and Music in Colonie, hosted by Chrissie Van Wormer and Bill Graham. Besides playing the Eagles *Peaceful Easy Feeling* with Bill, I introduced my new song, *A Pillow in the Car*. I need to get that up on the web site. I also played Peggy Sue. I love Buddy Holly.

There*s no open mic this week, so I*m practicing like crazy (and winterizing the lawn mowers). I also finished another song titled *Red Sun at Night*. Now I need to learn to play it. I had a nice time at the Department of Health Service Awards recognizing over 30 years of service. It was good to see some friends from work. Had to get the last *free lunch* from DOH. That*s all for now. Time to prepare for Trick or Treater*s . Have a happy Halloween.

Saturday October 13, 2007

Well, it had to happen. Autumn has truly arrived with damp, cool windy weather. It*s hard to believe that one week ago we were swimming and hiking on a beautiful camping trip to DAR State Forest in Goshen, Massachusetts. This week was great. I was at the open mic at Yours Jazz Club on Wednesday. I played my new song, Lonely Sailor, The Kid by Buddy Mondlock, and October Light by Robin and Linda Williams. It was a little rough since my voice is not at its best due to allergies. Also, I used a loaner guitar. I had to bring my Alvarez in for an electronics repair. It will frost soon and allergies will be gone, and I*ll have my own guitar back soon too, so there*s hope of improved performing. Jan and I topped off the week by attending the Robin and Linda Williams concert last night in Albany with our friends Shiela, Dave and Jody. The music was tremendous, as usual, and it*s always fun to be with our friends. All in all I*m having a great time practicing, writing and performing so life is good for me. Hope it is for you too. Thanks for stopping by. Drop me an e-mail if you feel the urge. Keep checking the site for new dates, pics and music.

Thursday October 4, 2007

Last night I played at the Old Songs Open Mic in Voorheesvillle, hosted by Kate Blain. The musicians were wonderful. I enjoyed listening as much as I did playing. I sang my new song, Lonely Sailor. I will be back there soon. There was a nice picture of my Art Walk appearance in the Cobleskill Times Journal (see the second page of photos). They got my first name wrong, but any coverage is good coverage. I*ll try to get some new song samples recorded and loaded soon. I*m working toward having enough original songs for a CD. Hope you all enjoy a beautiful Columbus day weekend.

Saturday September 29, 2007

Fall is here, and I*ve certainly had one of the better Summers of my life. Since my retirement on July 4th (Independence Day) after 31 years with the NYS Department of Health my wife Jan and I enjoyed a great trip to Colorado for the wedding of our oldest son, Mike and his new bride, Kat. Our visit there with family and friends was truly joyful. Kat and Mike honored me by asking me to play a song at their wedding (Waiting for my Real Life to Begin by Colin Hay). Upon our return, I wrote a song about Colorado, and Jan and I wrote lyrics for it. Jan and I went tent camping for the first time in years up at Little Sand Point on Piseco Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. We canoed there, and on the Great Sacandaga Reservoir in August. We had another great canoeing and camping weekend at Tolland State Park on Otis reservoir in Massachusetts with our son, Steve and his girlfriend Mallory, our daughter Melissa and her boyfriend Jason, and our niece Katie. There is nothing nicer than sitting around a campfire sharing music. We are hoping to camp one more time this Fall on Cape Cod.

I*ve met some new friends and heard some wonderful musicians and song writers playing at open mic*s at Yours Jazz club in Schenectady hosted by Bill Graham and Chrissie Van Wormer. I plan to do more open mic*s and hope to find other opportunities to play and sing. We*ve started playing again with the music group at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Delanson, directed by Jody Orlando a musical inspiration to me.

I*ve been trying to learn about website development and hope to continue to improve this website. I will also be adding more photos and song samples. I*ve had a lot more time to practice and work on new songs. It*s truly gratifying to have the time to spend on music, a passion which I*ve had on hold for too long. It*s my goal to learn more about recording and actually come up with a CD of original music in the not too distant future.

Today I made a solo appearance at the Tri County Council for the Arts annual Art Walk in Cobleskill, NY (look for newspaper coverage in next week*s Cobleskill Times Journal). What a blast! I definitely want to do more of this. Thanks to my friends who got up early and braved the cool Fall morning to listen to me perform. All went well except the battery in my guitar dying near the end of the show. Those distortion guitar effects were not planned for this acoustic show, but it was a good learning experience.

Keep checking the website for new appearance dates. I*m always looking for new places to play. Drop me an e-mail anytime. It*s always good to hear from friends, old (I mean longstanding not aged) and new.
