Occupation: Retired Serial Software Engineering Educator

Birthplace: Akron, OH (but, we moved to Hamden, CT when I was 2)

Education: BA Cornell University, PhD University of Maryland

One of my favorite quotes: "A university is a place that brings together people who share a common interest in parking." -- (supposedly attributed to a dean at Stanford)

A book I read recently:  The WEIRDest People in the World: How the West Became Psychologically Peculiar and Particularly Prosperous by Joseph Henrich

The one thing I can't stand: soccer coaches who take themselves too seriously.

If I've learned one thing in life, it's: There is no good skiing between Colorado and New England.

Major accomplishments: helping to create 4 MSE programs ( Wang Institute, CMU, RIT, Stevens ), 1 BSSE program: ( RHIT ), and 1 BESE program ( Stevens )

My most humbling experience: having to do a (required) reverse dive in high school swimming meets.

Some contributions in software engineering education: publications

A map of US software engineering academic programs: US_SwE_Programs (last updated June7, 2023)

The data used to make the map: ABET-accredited undergraduate programs, other undergraduate programs, graduate programs (updates appreciated). Undergraduate programs outnumber graduate programs, as this graph of historical trends shows. There are currently 26 schools that have both undergraduate and graduate programs.
