Parent Update: Week Ending 12/8/17

We are still collecting for Toys for Tots. Please bring in a new and unwrapped toy by 12/15.


6th Grade:

  
Ms. Gaskowitz: 
Classes 6-6, 6-7, and 6-8 read Chapters 4-6 of The Giver.
Classes 6-6 and 6-7 worked on their Suspense Essays. 

Ms. Maslow: 
Students learned about balanced and unbalanced forces and Newton’s Laws of Motion. In addition students read and annotated an article about the Tacoma Narrows Bridge ( nicknamed Galloping Gertie) and how how a poor understanding of Newton’s Laws of Motion led to its collapse in 1940. My students started writing an Informational Essay on this article taken from Scholastic Science News.


7th Grade: 


Mr. Auguste: 
My students reviewed and compared unit rate. 

Mr. Murolo: 
Students in 7-1, 7-2, 7-4, 7-5 and 7-12 found the density of different cubes. Next, students were introduced to the parts of the atom. Lastly, students learned about physical and chemical properties. 

Ms. Cucos: 
Class 7-17 continued to read The Pearl and practiced short responses. We also learned about minerals and compared old immigration with new immigration.

8th Grade:  


Mr. Auguste: 
My students worked on writing and solving linear word problems.  

Ms. Zhan: 
My 8th grade science classes learned more about genetics and calculated the probability of inheriting certain traits.  They will also be learning how to use the pedigree chart to determine inheritance. 

Ms. Traiman: Class 8-12
In ELA we continued reading The Pearl and started the final chapter, concentrating on theme.
In math we  continued working on rate of change (7th grade) and slope (8th grade) as well as review of  basic skills. 

Ms. Casey: 
My classes are completing the chapter 5 syllabus for The Pearl.

Non-Academic:  


Ms. Wilkinson: 
8th Grade Drama students are finalizing their monologues for performance .
6th and 7th Grade Drama Talent Classes are enjoying an Improvisation Unit.
6-4,6-5,6-8, and 7-5 are wrapping up The Miracle Worker with a final exam, project and viewing the film. 
7-7 is still acting out and discussing The Miracle Worker
Drama Project classes are finishing up The Diary of Anne Frank. They will watch the film and then prepare scenes for performance .
