Independent and Semi-Independent Living can be a rewarding permanency choice for many youth who have decided against adoption or guardianship with an adult. It is difficult to secure a future for yourself alone, so that is why mentors and positive adult role models are identified when APPLA is chosen as a goal for a youth.
The Save Our Children Coalition has a great website with lots of resources, and their aging-out resource guide is very helpful. You can view it here and check out different housing programs, help getting food, and other transitional programs.
With the help of the ALT youth board, this page will grow over the coming weeks with narratives of their own personal experiences, tips and tricks, and other important information for youth who will be living independently.
