I am an applied micro-economist working on political economy, labour economics and migration in both developed and developing countries. My work has appeared in academic journals such as the American Economic Review, Econometrica and the Review of Economic Studies, and has been covered by The Economist, the Financial Times, Le Monde and TIME, among others.
I served as Joint Managing Editor of The Economic Journal (2020–2024) and I have held visiting positions at Princeton, UC Berkeley, EIEF and Bocconi. I teach graduate courses in labour and public economics, policy evaluation and development economics, and I have supervised more than a dozen PhD students, who have gone on to universities, research institutes and international organisations, including Bocconi, the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the OECD.
I have worked with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, UNICEF, the OECD, the ILO and national governments on migration, labour markets, education, social protection and the cost of crime.
