Full Geographical Coverage to provide Voice over IP and Internet Television Services to mobile users

 

This is the last Project, in order of time, developed by Airnet and without any doubt the most enthralling.

 

The main objective is to deliver all over the Italian territory Wide Band  Internet Services to mobile users, deploying WiMAX Equipment at the side of the 21,839 Km  of Highways and Motorways controlled by ANAS ( Italian Public Agency in charge of National Highway Network ),

 

Thank to the actual coverage of the new WiMAX Base Station Equipment, it will be possible to serve the 80% of the Italian Territory and the 90% of the Italian Population  from Telecom Towers, like the ones already installed in the Bari Motorway, deployed within the 60 metres wide belt owned by ANAS along its 21,839 Km  of Highways and Motorways.

 

The picture above shows a sketch of the Italian Highway Network managed by ANAS ( in red ) and of Motorway Network managed by ANAS ( in dark green ), the light green circles show the WiMAX coverage from the Telecom Towers, that could  be implemented in the Areas owned by ANAS.

 

Every user, equipped with WiMAX Customer Premises Equipment, could be connected to all the national and international wide band Internet providers, convenioned with Air.Net initiative.

  

The Telecom Towers could be interconnected by Optical fibres or Digital Wide Wireless Bridge and the deployment will follow a best opportunity priority plan, to optimize the Return on Investments Ratio from the beginning.

 

Several National and International Telecom Operators are interested in taking care of the Development, Marketing and Support Operations and ready as well to participate to the financing of this project.

 

Each tower could allocate up to 6 Wireless Telecom Systems operated by different Operators.

 

 

 

The TLC Wireless Systems could be :

  • Base Transceiver Station (BTS) for UMTS, DCS, GSM Cellurar Phone Support
  • TETRA Public Telephony
  • Multipurpose Radio Bridge
  • WiFi/WiMAX Services Support ( Internet TV, Wireless ADSL, Remote Video Security Control, Traffic Control & Management etc)

Just one single Cellular Operator Agreement could financially justify the implementation of  a  Tower.

 

The Towers have a peculiar structure ( covered by patent) to optimize Telecommunications Services and to allow an easier relocation.

 

We have already signed a long term lease contract ( 9 plus 6 years ) with one of the three main Mobile Italian Operator and we have already implemented the first installations in Puglia, Campania and Sicily.

AirNet  expects that the outcome of  liberalization of some frequencies dedicated to WiMAX networking in the 3.4 - 3.6 GHz  band will increase the diffusion of fixed and mobile Internet wireless applications and will reduce the Digital Divide in Italy.


Solar-Powered WiMAX Base Stations 

Intel has already implemented a standard Solar-Powered WiMAX Base Station in 2006. In remote sites where there is no grid electricity, the cost of a diesel generator can be as high as 40 cents per kWh, including the cost of fuel delivery to the site. In some cases, an electric generator is transported to a repair site, which also adds to the cost.

With a lifetime of 25 years for the solar panels and 15 years for the battery array, Intel says these solar systems can generate electricity at a cost of 33 cents per kWh. 

AirNet is working at deployment plans for a WiMAX Networks in the three Italian Regions, where it is present with its main installation facilities: Puglia, Campania and Sicily.

AirNet has already developed and installed self sufficient WiFi Base Stations, connected by chained radio bridges and powered by Solar Panels to make easier and faster the deployment of Digitalized Networks in new areas.

 

Airnet  has installed 34 WiFi Radio Base Station along the " Autostrada dei Fiori " between Andora and Imperia East in the 2005 Summer. 9 of them are Solar powered.


All of them are still operational after more than 38.000 hours of 24/24,  7/7 service without any part replacement. Basic maintanance ( connections checking, insulation control and Battery Back Up replacemant ) are sufficient.



 

 


AirNet is studying a similar solution for WiMAX Base Stations based on Solar Panels implemented  on thin film CIGS directly deposited on conductive substrate used as electrode.

 

Inexpensive, foldable solar panel up to 80% efficient ( actually the best commercial panels have an efficiency of 14% ) are going to be available in the Market in five years.

They are based on nanotechnology. The surface of the material is printed with miniscule nano-antennae that capture infra-red radiation, the kind that the sun puts out in abundance, and is even available at night. Television antennas absorbe large wavelength energy, so in order to absorb ultra-small wavelength energy (photons) they had to create ultra-small antennas. The cost and the size of these panels will be at least 10 times smaller than the actual ones.


The availability of these new solar panels will totally change the implementation techniques of remote WiMAX base stations. 

The usefulness of even the most feature-packed phone is limited by its battery life. That has manufacturers racing to build better, greener cellphone batteries. That could include fuel cells, kinetic energy or solar energy. An Apple patent application for solar-powered touch screens recently inspired chatter about solar-powered iPhones and iPods.

A new 16 faces Mast has been delivered in Taranto to the first Cellular Phones Operator. It is part of the Local  Video Traffic Network and is is going to be used to support Cellular Phone BTS, Master WiMAX Stations and Long Distance Wide Band Radio Bridge as well.

The main objective is to deliver all over the Italian territory multimodal Internet Services to mobile users, deploying WiMAX Equipment at the side of the 21,839 Km  of Highways and Motorways controlled by ANAS ( Italian Public Agency in charge of National Highway Network ).

Thank to the coverage of the new WiMAX Base Station Equipment, it will be possible to serve the 80% of the Italian Territory and the 90% of the Italian Population  from Telecom Towers, like the ones already installed in the Bari Motorway, Taranto, Trani etc deployed within the 60 metres wide belt owned by ANAS along its 21,839 Km  of Highways and Motorways.

The actual radius coverage of the WiMAX Base Stations is 4 times larger than the GSM one, that means 20 Km.

Each main Tower has a group of 3 or more ancillary Towers, located at 5, 10 Km distance, to monitor a larger span of traffic, the ancillary Towers are used as well to service Cellular Base Transceiver Stations and WiFi and WiMAX installations.



ANAS APPROVES A NEW TRAFFIC MONITORING AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ON S.S. 16 “Adriatica” BETWEEN "MONOPOLI NORD" AND "CAPITOLO"

It concerns three implementations ( lotto “S.S. 16 – Monopoli “) with Mobile  Domes and three implementations on S.S. 96 and on S.S. 172 ( Modugno, Orimini and Crispiano).
ANAS SpA grants for 29 years to AIR.NET  the availability of ” Monopoli Sud” , “ Monopoli Zona Industriale” on S.S. 16, “ Monopoli  Capitolo” and” Area di svincolo di Modugno” on S.S. 96  ( “ Orimini” location and   “ Crispiano” location), where to implement the Traffic Management Systems, each with a surface of  70 mq.
