Dear Fifth Grade Students and Parents,
Welcome to the Nash / D’Andrea team! We hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer, and we look forward to hearing about your activities. We are excited you will be a member of our team, and we are looking forward to a great year together.
Part of our program involves developing organizational and study skills. We want each student to have the same kind of binder and homework folder, so WE WILL BUY THESE TWO ITEMS FOR YOU and distribute them on the first day of school. We will notify you of the cost of these items in September. Each child will also be given an assignment notebook courtesy of Village School. There are, however, some supplies you need to purchase and have your child bring to the classrooms on the first day.
Supplies Needed for Classroom Use
• Colored pencils
• Four pocket folders, unpunched, no clasps please
• Glue Sticks
• Index Cards (3 x 5)
• Post-It Notes
• Three black and white composition books
• Calculator (TI-15 recommended)
In addition, each child should have a plastic soprano recorder, Yamaha brand preferred.
For your child’s study area at home, we suggest you have white lined paper, plenty of pencils, and a dictionary and atlas for reference.
Please be sure to read at least two books this summer, one of which should be The Liberation of Gabriel King by K.L. Going. Other choices can be made by you or from the summer reading list. Please do not forget to work on Study Island for math throughout the summer.
We hope you enjoy your summer vacation. It was great meeting you all on Step Up Day, and we look forward to getting to know you better. Please feel free to stop by during the week before school starts to say hello and explore our classrooms (rooms 137 and 138). We’re going to have a great year!
Ms. Nash and Ms. D’Andrea
