Responding to the demands and changes in the education sector of the community, Barangay Captain Domingo R. Liwanag, together with the barangay councilors had a consensus in establishing a local school to cater the growing population of students in the secondary level.
The local government unit in coordination with the Division of City Schools - Valenzuela, enacted the proposal. Hon. Emmanuel L. Carlos, then city mayor, together with the late congressman, Hon. Antonio M. Serapio, initially funded the school building located at Pabaya Street Extension Mapulang Lupa, Valenzuela City while the school’s division superintendent, Dr. Aquilina S. Rivas, works on the facilities needed and school personnel that will manage the school.
The propose barangay high school was planned to set off for the school year 2003 - 2004 but it faces uncertainty when the construction of the 3 storey building was ceased during the first quarter of 2003 due to election ban and abrupt transitions in the local government unit.
To keep up with the plan, the stakeholders decided to construct provisional rooms in a nearby covered court that will served as a temporary settlement for students.
VNHS - Mapulang Lupa Annex opened up with 210 first year students and 6 teachers under the management of Dr. Genindina M. Sumbillo, Head Teacher of the Mathematics Department of Valenzuela National High School. For two years, VNHS - MLA keeps its operation in San Agustin Covered Court.
On July 15, 2005, the school was forced to relocate to its permanent site at Pabaya Street Extension, Mapulang Lupa to accommodate the growing number of enrolees. Credits were given to the city mayor, Hon. Sherwin T. Gatchalian, and the late congressman Hon. Antonio M. Serapio for completing the delayed school project. Also, Dr. Alma Bella O. Bautista, the new schools division superintendent then, spearheaded the inauguration of the 18 classroom school building.
In June of 2009, MLNHS welcomes Mr. Meliton P. Zurbano as the new principal and in the span of 4 years of his service, he augmented the resources of the school from the number of teachers and academic classrooms.
January 30, 2014 when Mr. Eddie Alarte from Wawang Pulo National High School took over the post as the new school head of Mapulang Lupa National High School.
