Using Google Geo Tools in Conservation: Cape Town 2012

What?    Using Google Geo Tools in Conservation
When?   25-27 June 2012

We will accept applications until 23:59 on Friday, 15 June 2012. Applicants will be accepted in on a rolling basis, so hurry to avoid disappointment!

Who should attend: The workshop is designed for conservation scientists, managers, educators, communicators and practitioners who are interested in using Google Geo Tools (particularly Google Earth, Google Maps and Fusion Tables) to improve operations and visualize, communicate and share their work.

You do not need to be a GIS expert or technology specialist to attend! All you need is a laptop with Google Earth on it and a willingness to learn!

What will we cover? This workshop will introduce you to using Google Earth, Google Maps and Fusion Tables for supporting decision making, increasing public awareness, and creating maps for your conservation project or organisation. We will also introduce you to the MAPA Project, and how you can use this map for your own benefit. A preliminary list of topics is available here.

The workshop is highly practical and interactive and, on the third day, participants will have the opportunity to design and work on their own maps and visualisations.

Cost:  R200 per person for the course
