In response to the growing downtown Jewish communities of Chelsea and the West Village, the Sixteenth Street Synagogue, Magen David of Union Square, Congregation Adereth El and the NYU Jewish community, in conjunction with Mechon L’Hoyroa Beth Din of Monsey, NY, have joined together with rabbinic and lay leaders of all denominations and have expanded the greater Manhattan Eruv yet again.
Building upon the existing Manhattan Eruv – comprised of the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Midtown East, and parts of Greenwich Village – the expansion includes the communities of Chelsea, Greenwich Village, West Village and the Meatpacking District.
Included in the expansion is the newly opened High Line Park, which stretches along 10th Avenue.
While the expansion has already been completed, the necessary funds needed to continuously maintain the Eruv expansion need to be raised as well.
