01. Lesson Plan to Introduce Managing Impulsivity

Making Habits of Mind relevant to students and easy to grasp can be a challenging task. In order for students to be successful in their personal development of these habits, we as teachers must design lessons that allow students to see the habit in action, see the absence of the habit, include peer discussion, support self-reflection, and allow time for students to share their experiences with this habit in the past. The attached lesson plan includes two parts to help students fully grasp the concept of Managing Impulsivity. The lesson includes entertaining, humorous clips from the film Happy Gilmore, as well as group and individual reflection opportunities. The lesson can be used all together as it is attached here, or you can choose to include bits and pieces spread out over the course of a week.
