Overview

Malden High School students are expected to engage in summer reading in preparation for the year ahead.

Summer Reading program at Malden High is intended to encourage student to engage in the world, follow an interest, and challenge themselves.

The requirements for each grade level and for AP students differ; students should use the side-tab to navigate the requirements. Summer Reading articles are selected by the faculty and staff at Malden High and are aligned with the essential questions of the student's incoming English and Social Studies classes. The articles span a variety of genres and levels. Students entering grades 9, 10 and 11 should, in addition to the articles, read a book of their choice and answer some provided questions. Students entering grade 12 choose a book from a teacher-sponsored list and will discuss the book during the first week of school.

Students are expected to have the summer reading completed and the accompanying assignments by the day after Labor Day vacation - September 6th. Summer Reading is factored into the student's first quarter grade and readings may be referenced throughout the year. In most cases, completion of summer reading assignment is 5% of the student's first quarter grade.
