Mahmoud A. K. Gomaa, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Dr. Gomaa is a roboticist with a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, specializing in mechatronics, robotics, and control with theoretical and experimental backgrounds in navigation and control of autonomous systems, including robot manipulators, ground vehicles, aerial vehicles, nuclear reactors, and directional drilling systems, in addition to having more than ten years of teaching experience of mechatronics courses. Adept at modelling of dynamic systems, designing nonlinear visual-inertial navigation systems (VINS), designing advanced trajectory tracking controllers, e.g., nonlinear model predictive controllers (NMPC), and performing stability and observability analysis of nonlinear systems. Possesses excellent hands-on experience in a broad range of robotic hardware, electronics, and programming, e.g. Matlab, Python, ROS and machine learning.
Dr. Gomaa is currently a research engineer in space robotics at MDA Space, Brampton, Canada. Prior to joing MDA, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Intelligent Systems Lab (ISL), Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), St. Johns, NL, Canada. he gained his Ph.D. degree in Robotics from MUN in 2021, the Master’s degree in Systems and Control Engineering from KFUPM, Dhahran, KSA in 2017, and the B.Sc. degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Helwan University, Cairo, Egypt in 2011 with first-class honors degree. He has 11 years of experience in research and academia as a teaching and research assistant at Future University in Egypt (FUE), Helwan University, KFUPM, and Memorial University.
Research Interests: Mechatronics Systems, Autonomous Mobile Robots, Control Systems, Intelligent Systems, and State Estimation and Navigation Systems.
