Coaches' Corner

For the Women from Coach Bird

Hello Team and Parents,

It was a great turn-out for the start of Voluntary Weight Training.

A couple of reminders from our meeting.....

 1. Physicals and Medical History Forms must be turned into the Nurse within one week. The Nurse will give you a sticky note to give to me for your clearance.

 2. Consent to Test Form - Same thing. This must be completed on the bright colored paper and returned to ME within one week.

 3. Clothing - Once we start rowing, please make sure that you bring back-up clothes and running shoes every day.

 4. Car Pools - Since there is no busing to Ventnor, please figure out car pools with your fellow rowers. Contact your coach for assistance if needed.

 5. USRowing Waiver Forms that must be completed prior to race day.  This is for NEW rowers or RETURNING rowers who are due to renew their annual membership.

There is a $5.75 administrative fee that is payable by the individual athlete, not the team.

For a step by step walk through of navigating the US ROWING site:  Please note you are signing up for the "free" membership...US ROWING is applying the $5.75 as an administrative fee.

The coaching staff would like to see each rower running at least two days a week over and above weight training. Here are the guidelines. Freshmen - 10 minutes Upperclassmen - 20 minutes
And thank you to all of the parents that attended the informal meeting last night. If there are any questions that were not addressed, feel free to contact any of the coaching staff for help.

For the Men from Coach Somershoe

Hello Gentlemen,

I would like to introduce myself, my name Eric Somershoe and I'm your new Head coach... I along with my staff are looking forward to the new school year/ 2016-2017 season.

Fall ( club) crew will start the second week of school. If you are playing a fall sport at Mainland that is okay with me and the staff. If you are planning to row in the fall, we will be rowing four days a week in September and October ( weather permitting).

Training for the next three weeks.. ( last two week August and first week of September)

Enjoy the last days of summer...because in the middle of winter training you are going to thank us (The Boys Staff) for the warm/hot summer days at the beach, bay, ocean or the woods... swimming, running, rowing "something" and enjoying the outdoors is mandatory.. I will ask you about this "Free Time"..

See you in the hallways,
Coach Somer"Shoe"
