Stotesbury 2014

posted May 17, 2014, 7:18 PM by Bob Mullin   [ updated May 21, 2014, 1:31 PM ]

9 boats braved the soaking rains, high winds and raging waters Friday.  6 of those boats were supposed to advance to the semi-final round.  Unfortunately, mother nature had other plans- and the semi-finals were cancelled.   Only the top 6 boats would be advancing.  Unfortunately, the Girls Freshman 8, Varsity 4, and Boys Lightweight 4 were not going to have the opportunity to medal.

Racing started Saturday with the Boys Freshman 8.  This gutty group has rowed in 3 of the most exciting races ( Garden States Finals, Stotesbury semi and finals).  Unfortunately the finish line came too soon, and this group just missed gold by .15 seconds.  A silver medal was won, and their effort was unbelievable.

The Boys 2nd varsity 8 also put in a strong effort.  Rowing in lane 2, they made a move to put them in contention ,but came up just short.

Lastly the Girls JV4+.  After coming 1st in their time trial by 8 seconds, they faced some strong competition.  But their sprint was strong, and they put away the competiton for Gold.  Congratulations girls!

Stotesbury 2013

One of the very first sport shows on television was ABC's Wide World of Sports.  The byline was "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat".  MRHS girls rowing experienced both within 90 minutes of each other at the Stotesbury Regatta.  The girls JV8 boat continued their improvement and grabbed silver in an exciting race.  The girls V4 raced in a very tight race.  The 1st 4 finishers finished inside of 1.5 seconds of each other, with MRHS missing medaling by .09 seconds.   On to SRAA Nationals at the Cooper River and the last regatta on the schedule for the season.
