The Maine Principals' Association contract with MWLOA requires that the officiating organization verify that all of its officiating members have passed a background check. The MWLOA executive board has approved two methods for members to show proof that they have passed a background check that allows them to work around and with minors.
Prior to the 2017 lacrosse season, all returning members of the Maine Women's Lacrosse Officials' Association will be required to show proof of having passed the CHRC (criminal history record check) through fingerprinting and background check with the state of Maine OR passing US Lacrosse's background check. You will not be assigned games until you have shown proof that you have passed one of these background checks.
Maine CHRC Background Check - If you are a Maine public school employee, you had your fingerprints taken and a CHRC done as part of your employment. This is the same background check that is required for IAABO Board 21 basketball officials. Please submit a photocopy or PDF of your CHRC clearance to MWLOA secretary, Melanie Alt: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Maine CHRC background check is the same process as the Maine Department of Education uses for all school employees. Please note that it takes approximately 8-weeks from fingerprints to the receipt of your CHRC card.
To schedule an appointment to have your fingerprints taken, please go to the following website: IndentoGO.

US Lacrosse Background Check - Please note that the US Lacrosse background check does NOT cover you for officiating other sports in Maine. However, it is a faster and less expensive option. US Lacrosse uses the National Center for Safety Initiatives program.
To complete your background requirement through US Lacrosse, please follow the instructions below:
The cost for the US Lacrosse background check ranges from $32 to almost $100 depending on where you have lived throughout your life and covers you for two calendar years. It takes approximately 48-hours to complete this background check if you have lived in just one state/address for the past five years. It may take longer if you have lived in another state/address during the past five years.
