About Me

I hail from the southern coastal city of Chennai (formerly Madras), India. I did my schooling from DAV public school, Teynampet and Vidya Mandir, Mylapore. My undergraduate studies were in Automobile Engineering from the University of Madras (Hindustan College of Engineering). I came to the United States to pursue my masters in Mechanical Engineering in the fall of 2002 and eventually fell in love with Psychology. I started my PhD program in fall 2004 and finished in 2009. I joined New Paltz in the fall of 2009. I have provided links to both my hardly ever updated blog and the more current photo albums just in case you would like to see them.

Passions: At some point I would have scribbled stuff about all this in my blog. I have linked the relevant articles in this page.

Cricket: I played cricket for my school and have watched cricket all my life. Needless to say I support India even though they let me down in the big stage! I am a right handed batsman and a left arm chinaman ( no it is not a swear! left arm legspin...). My favourite cricketers include Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Lance Klusener, Gaven Larsen, Paul Strang and Neil Fairbrother.

India are World Champions (2011) !!

Tennis: First there was Boris Becker, then Pete Sampras but now it is the one and only Federer. I love the way he moves in the court and makes everything effortless! To me he is the quintessential example of why we should study Perception and Action each in the context of the other. Just a beautiful sight overall!

Football (soccer): Really a seasonal watcher but come the world cup or the Euro I latch on to a team to support. I dislike the Italians for their defensive football and typically support Argentina in the world cup and teams like Czech or Greece (the underdogs). UEFA I support teams depending on the make up that year. Recently Spain and Barcelona have capture mine (and everyone's!) imagination. Leo Messi all the way!

Football (American): It is crazy how crazy I have become of football in recent years. I love the New England Patriots (keep your  boos to yourself!). I also love the sport, the strategy, and eagerly await each season.

Music: A die hard fan of AR Rahman. I love his music all the way from Roja to today. As for English music a variety of bands U2, Red hot chilli peppers, Sting, Ace of Base, Black eyed peas etc etc I love world music and language is no barrier! You can see that is dated! Recently, it has been Mumford and Sons on the loop. Of course this keeps changing.

Travel: One of the important reasons why I need a job! I would love to see different parts of the world. My favourite place in the world right now is Yellowstone National Park. Someday I hope to see the world. Right now am in the race to see all the fifty states in the United States. Please click here to see my current tally. The current tally is now up to 39!

Food: Anyone who knows me will vouch for the fact that I love food. Well you don't really have to know me; you could just look at me and know that! I am a vegetarian and I like to try the vegetarian options in World cuisine. I am not half as passionate about cooking though I accidentally (no I am not being humble!) cook some tasty food!

Books: At the age of 16 I foolishly decided that I would not read anything fictional -(no more !) a source of much chagrin to my wife! I have mostly adhered to that except on a few occasions. While I have missed out on a lot of fun, I have come to love popular science books and I would blame one of those books for my interest in Psychology!
