Watch The Mortal Instruments City of Bones Online which released in the
US on August 21, 2013, grossed an estimated $58 million, reports The
Wrap. That’s $2 million less than the film’s reported production budget.
To add salt to the gaping financial wound, those numbers are nowhere
close to the likes of say Twilight: New Moon, which raked in more than
$72 million on its opening day alone.
Production on the sequel was supposed to start next week with director
Harald Zwart set to return, along with stars Lily Collins, Jamie
Campbell Bower, and Kevin Zegers. Sigourney Weaver was also slated to
join the cast.

of the studios have really been pushing to try to get a brand new teen
book to movie franchise off of the ground and making money for a while.
Earlier this year, Cassandra Clare’s popular City of Bones novel was
adapted into a film that didn’t pull Twilight numbers, but did manage to
make its budget back thanks to the worldwide box office. If you are a
fan of the YA novel franchise and didn’t get to catch the flick in
theaters, you’ll be able to do so when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
brings The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones on to Blu-ray, DVD, and
Digital on December 3.
The Mortal Instruments:
City of Bones is a tale that is part fantastical and part romantic in
nature. It tells of a society of Shadowhunters who fight against demons
across the world and try to avoid any unpleasant confrontations with
vampires or werewolves. One day, a seemingly normal New York teenager
named Clary Fray (Lily Collins) finds herself in the middle of this
fantastical world of Shadowhunters. New York will never look exactly the
same again, especially after Clary meets a young Shadowhunter named
Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower). Here’s a trailer for the movie explaining a

while it looked like we would be getting a sequel based on the second

Unfortunately, it looks like that project has been permanently placed on

While fans may not be getting that second film, the movie
does a decent job of bringing the book to life, and fans will get to
spend plenty of time with the cast and crew via the bonus features in
the set. The PG-13 flick will actually come with quite a few extras.
While Blu-ray copies of the movie will come with a few exclusive
behind-the-scenes featurettes, extras will also come with the DVD,
including a segment on the stunts and another on the characters in the
film. You can check out the full list of bonus features, below, or

Well it was no Twilight or
Harry Potter or Hunger Games. Word on the street is Mortal Instruments:
City of Bones will not have a sequel as planned — at least not any time
soon. Earlier today, movie production company Constantin Film confirmed

City of Ashes was a decision we did not take lightly,” the film’s
executive producer Martin Moszkowicz explained in the press release.
“But after speaking with all of our partners on the creative and

time to reposition the film in the current market place."
