Mahashweta is a Sr. Research Scientist at Visa Research. Previously, she was employed as a Research Scientist at Hewlett Packard Labs. 

She received her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2013. She received her Master's and Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Ohio State University in 2009 and Jadavpur University (India) in 2007 respectively.

Her research interests include large-scale data mining, big data analytics, machine learning, information retrieval, databases, and algorithms.

She visited the Information Management Group at IBM Research in 2009, the Recommendation Group at Technicolor Research Lab in 2011, and the Web Mining Group at Yahoo! Research in 2012. 

She has published over 15 refereed articles at premier data mining and database venues (ACM SIGMOD, ACM SIGKDD, VLDB, etc.) and regularly serves on the program committee of these conferences. She holds 1 issued patent and has filed over 5 patents in the last 2 years. Her PhD dissertation received Honorable Mention at ACM SIGKDD 2014 Doctoral Dissertation Award. Her research paper titled “Who Tags What? An Analysis Framework” was selected for the Best Papers of VLDB 2012.
