Song of Songs

We were a Jesus Music original band from 1980 - 1986 based in Wichita Kansas. This group started off before that with only Mark Waner, his wife Debbie, and her sister Gina. They were together only as a trio with just Mark on acoustic guitar and three powerful vocals.

Mark met John Boda sometime in 1977 and they became friends and discovered similar styles and deep commitments to the Kingdom of God through music. 

They began rehearsing and then ministering in concert as a four-piece with added acoustic lead guitar and vocals. Then John Boda suggested adding his good friend and former band mate bass player - Kerry Potter. He fit perfectly and filled in the missing piece. 

We recorded two studio albums: Song of Songs 1980 / Till the Reign Comes 1984

For the second one, we also added a studio drummer on selected songs and featured more than half new songs written by John Boda. 

We officially broke up when John Boda moved back to his home base in Chicago in 1986 and the others pursued different paths also. We did have one partial reunion in 2010 when John Boda returned for a short visit and we ministered at a local church.

Finally, an update to this group is that Kerry Potter (Bass player) was called home to glory recently on March 17, 2025 age 69. The last words he said to me (John Boda) was in a text conversation indicating he hoped we would have a glorious reunion again someday over yonder. I know we will!
