Hardy to zone 3.

Open, multi-stemmed, deciduous tree with horizontal branching habit and emerald green foliage. Smooth gray bark.

Slow growing. Average life span of about 30 years.

Ht 20', spread 25' .

Full sun to part shade. Prefers a cool, moist site with afternoon shade.

Prefers rich, acidic soil. Moist, but well draining. Will not tolerate standing water. Does best in a sheltered location. Mulch around root zone to protect in winter.

Clusters of fragrant creamy white flowers held atop the branches in late spring. Outstanding burgundy color in the fall. Produces blue berries in mid summer.

Low maintenance. Good for attracting birds.
