Based on feedback from a number of teachers/schools and to accommodate virtual school classes, this year's MSEO will not involve any fees. As such, compared to an in-person MSEO there are two major differences.
1. Materials
No materials will be provided by W. L. Mackenzie CI (we would have to charge fees to recover the cost if we were to purchase materials and send them out to participating schools). Materials required for any event will have to be provided by either the participating school or the students themselves. If materials are required, they will be relatively inexpensive, common in the home, or found at a local dollar store.
If an event requires materials and there is no way for the staff/students to obtain them, the staff supervisor can choose to abstain from that event.
2. Awards
There will also be no awards given this year as the medals that we normally distribute are prohibitively costly for this current climate. We are a publicly funded TDSB high school and anything we spend on prizes for winning students would have to be paid for either out of our school budget or through fees collected from participating schools. Like TDSB middle schools, our budget this year has been severely limited to manage the pandemic.
However, all winning teams will receive certificates. They will be emailed to all participants.
