My Billycart Blue Print
On January seventh 2008, we had our first math lesson of the year. During this math lesson we started to work on making our billycarts. I had to make the blue print of my billycart by scaling it down, onto a piece of paper. I use a scale of 1:6.
step 1: First we got a measuring tape, our book, and a pencil.
step 2: Then, I used my measuring tape to measure the lingth, the width, and the diameter of the whells of my billcart that I have estimated. I had to make sure it was a comfortable size for me to sit on.
step 3: After measuring the lenght, width, and the diameter of the billycart wheels, I had to wirte the measurements down inside my math book.
step 4: The next thing that happened was us being diveded in groups who's lenght and width measurements are nearly the same.
step 5: The groups were then given a measuremaent close to the measurements that they had within the group. This is so that everyone in one group had the same measurement.
step 6: Each group then had to scale down the measurements so that it would fit on paper. My group chose a scale of 1:6.
step 7: I then had to draw the top view of my billycart, as well as the side view of it, acording to my measurements and scale.
These ate the steps in making the blue print of our billycart. During this activity I learned many things. like the big thing itself, how to make a blue print. If you read all of this, you might think that making a blue print is hard to do. Well, it's actually not that hard(and it's quite fun to do).

The First Day
Today, the seventeenth of January 2008, we finallystarted to make our billycarts. Not everything went as planed. Everything was different than what I imagined it ti be.
First of all there was only wood for 3 groups, and the wood had already been cut into the shape we wanted then to be. Some of the sizes were also different. Some should have been made using two planks of wood but they were only one plank of wood. the billycart were also very high off the ground, a lot higher than we expected.
Today we learned somethings that are good to know about. Sunch as, when we put on the wheels two were steady and can only go forward, will the other two had swivels so that they can go in any direction. Th wheels with the swivels were the back wheels at first, but it turned out that the billycart was hard to control then. So, we switched the wheels. the back wheels became the front, but that was nogood either. Then finally we soved the pronlem by taking the steady wheels off of another billycart, and puthin the steady whells on another billycart which already had two steady whells. We also had another problem, this time with Mrs. Jane's billycart. Mrs. Jane used wheel bearings instead of wheels. So that the whell barings would not fal off, Mrs. Jane got them nailed onto the billycart except one. So, this one kept on falleng off. To fix thes pronblem we got it nailed, and also, the handle to handle the billycart was a little bit tightened. After it was fixed, we had a race between our two billycarts. One billycart had wheel bearings, whele the other had wheels, In the end, the fastest billycart was the one with wheel bearings, so we found out that wheels were safer because the went slowere and were easier to handle.

Billy Cart Project
Hi, my name is Mandy. I’m in Grade 5, and my class and I just had a fun project. This project is our U.O.I(Unit of Inquiry) project. In this U.O.I we had been learning about machines. So, we had a project to madke a billycart(and engineless vehical) Which is a simple machine. Not everything went as planned, but it was great in the end.
Here is whre it starts. First, in January 208, we started with the very first thing you would need to do, when you want to build anything, not just a billycart, this thing is a blueprint. You have to have a blueprint before you start building anything because a blueprint is a plan you need to follow.On a blueprint, thre are measurements and sizes you have dicided on, and a drawing of everything in the right neasurements and a specific scale. A scale is a measurement you use to nake a blueprint, it can make things either bigger or smaller in real life. For example, if you have a scale of 1:10, in the blueprint one centimeter could mean ten centimeters in real life.
So, like any other things that were going to be built, everyone in my class had their own blueprint. We made our blueprints during our math lesson. Forst, we were given a piece of measuring tape. Second, we sat on the floor and had to imagine how big out billycart will have to be so tht it’s a comfortable sixe for us to sit on. After I have imagined the size for my billycart, I had to mesure my imaginary billycart with my piece fo measuring tape. Thenm I wrote down my measurements inside my math book.
That was just the first phase of making our blueprints. Next we had to make a scale for our billycarts. Inorder to do this we were put into groups, acording to our sizes. The people whise sizes were close to each other made one group. Then, the different sizes of one group was made so that everyone in one group has the same sizes. Finally, before we could start drawing out blueprints, each group had to have a specific scale. My group dicided on a scaleof 1:6.
Now it was time to draw. I drew everything my billycart would need acording to the scale. My blueprint is now done.
It was time for the next step. We had our blueprint photocopied and given to some carpenters who would help us make our billycarts. So that we would know how our billycarts were made we had a field trip to the carpenters workshop.
The fieldtrip was hot but fun, at least to me. There we saw them use a sawing machine to cut the wood into the same sjize as the drawing on our blueprint. Then we saw how the could make the wood smooth. After that they showed us how to make the wood on our bilycart so that it would be evently thick, using a tool called ‘kulusid’. The last thing we saw was how they could cut a patern into the wood, frist by drawing the pattern wit a sekon serong. Then cutting it out with a saw. During our fieldtrip I tried using a sanpaper machine, a sandpaper, and a ‘kulusud’. I could tell you a lot nore details but that would take to long.
The next week the carpentars brought our billycarts into our classroom, and we could fix ont eh steering and wheels of our billycarts. After that we put undercoat on our billycarts. Then they were left in the sun to dry, before the carpentars sanded them.
Here is the fun part, painting it! I painted the undersid of my billy cart first. I paintedit light blue. Then I painted the top side with light blue too. Then I painted the design on. My billycart looks nice I have to admite.
This is how we did our project. We are going to have contests. I just ca’t wait!
