Love at first sight…and indeed it was. After visiting a Strictly sails boat show in Chicago’s Navy Pier  in February of 2005, I started looking ad some classified ads, just to get an idea what a sailboat might cost...

Of course, “they” say a BOAT means Bring Out Another Thousand…Sailing is like standing in a cold shower tearing $100 bills and so on… I just refused to believe all that. So I’m looking, knowing that my dear wife  would be extremely happy if  we got a sailboat,…looking… and... as the Beatles were singing: “And I saw her standing there…ta-da-da-da!"...

Love at first sight...

So, I e-mailed the guy in mid February, asking what he wanted and  if he could store it for us until the weather gets better. We shook hands on a deal and all we had left to do is drool on the pictures that he sent us , patiently waiting for the end of Winter …boy, was it a long Winter…

So, we finally had a chance to pick it up in June of 2005. What a nice guy, he kept the boat in his yard for us, free of charge and didn't sell it to anyone else. The guy -(Mr.D) was not the first owner and only sailed Chesapeake Bay on it for one season and ended up buying a bigger and younger Mac 26. So, June 12, 2005, was marked as "they" say, a happiest day in a life of a new boat owner-a day we bought it. Our friends Roman and Eric were great sports in volunteering to help me trailer the boat nonstop from the Eastern Pennsylvania to Chicago 782 miles one way.

So, there we were, about to take off to Chicago...

Eric,   Roman,  I,   Mac.

15 hours later we safely arrived to Chcago......Ssshew....I had never towed anything in my life before, so the first few miles we were extremely careful...stopped every few miles to check the trailer and rigging. So, on a 782-nd mile we almost forgot it was behind us :O)..it trailered like a dream!

to be continued...
