You will perform research on the synthesis and characterisation of new complexes that can function as improved single-molecule magnets (SMMs), in the research group of Dr Mark Murrie. This will involve the synthesis of families of SMMs, where the local magnetic anisotropy at each constituent metal centre can be manipulated in a controlled way, in order to increase the overall cluster anisotropy. Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous: nickel or cobalt coordination chemistry; ligand synthesis; use of sulfur-based ligands or calculation of spin Hamiltonian parameters. In addition, you will be responsible for equipment and undertake modest teaching and/or administration as requested by the Principal Investigator or Head of School.
