Note: A rondo is a classical music form in which various contrasting melodic sections, known as "episodes," are repeated in a specific pattern. The form is thought to date back to the Medieval "rondeau," in which repeating couplets were interspersed by longer stanzas of poetry, but it continued to evolve into a more elaborate musical structure, culminating in the "sonata rondo," in which the sections of the sonata are arranged in rondo form and follow similar conventions of key modulation. The classical rondo typically consists of repetitions of an A and a B section, or A, B, and C episodes, often repeated in the pattern ABA, ABACA, or ABACABA. However, Buck-Tick's rondo contains four episodes: the chorus (A), the instrumental section (B), verse (C) and the pre-chorus (D), and a more complex structure of repeats: ABCDACDAAAAB. Still, the evocation of rondo form is clear enough, especially with the addition of the accordion, violin, and classical-style guitar. The harmonic minor "gypsy" sound is most likely an homage to Mozart's "Rondo Alla Turca," which is one of those universally known "Classical Music 101" pieces in Japan, and often referred to simply as "Rondo" by people lacking a greater depth of musical education (though we know Imai isn't one of those people).
1) I gave the cat a female pronoun because I assume this is a reference to Sakurai's Bengal Kurumi, who he has publicly referred to as "my lover." In fact, this line literally says that the cat is trembling slightly, not purring, but if you've ever held a sleeping cat on your lap you know that purring is what he really means.
