About Us

Founded in 1987, the Lyra String Quartet performs a wide variety of classical and popular music.  The ensemble originally comprised of the principal string players of the Kenosha Symphony.  The quartet was appointed Quartet-in-Residence at Carthage College in 1991, a position generously endowed by the Donna Wolf Steigerwaldt Foundation.  The current quartet consists of members of the Chicago Sinfonietta.  Recent performances include recitals through the Sinfonietta, as well as radio performances on WFMT.

Our diverse repertoire consists of baroque, classical, romantic, Broadway, tangos, jazz, and popular music.  Please take a moment to read about us and listen to some of our recordings.
