I am attaching an e mail giving updates on the Lyng project. If you missed the original meeting but would like to now get involved please contact Richard directly.
I am trying to arrange times for some sites for August and September.
Please could you let me know if any of the days listed below are possible for work in your gardens? This would involve between 1 and 3 test pits, each one being 1m by 1m in size. The idea of doing several pits is so that we can pick up any changes as we go further away from the road. The work would be done between 10am and 4pm.
Please could you also let me know if you would like to help carry out the work in your own or other peoples gardens on the dates below too.
Thursday 25th August
Friday 26th August
Wednesday 31st August
Thursday 1st September
Friday 2nd September
Saturday 3rd of September
Tuesday 6th September
Wednesday 7th September
Thursday 8th September
Friday 9th of September
We will arrange some more dates (including weekends) for later in the year as well so don’t worry if none of these are convenient.
Any suggestions for a name for the project will be gratefully received? Saxon Lyng Archaeology Project (SLAP) is just one suggestion.
I hope to see some of you in the near future. We will provide updates on the work for the parish website as we go along and have an end of year event in the winter to let people know what has been found.
All the best,
Dr. Richard Brunning
