Faye & Don Rautio

As most of you know by now, our Unit has lost very loyal and supportive members.  Faye Rautio and her husband, Don, were killed in an automobile accident on their way back to TheVillages after spending the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with their family in Minnesota.  While both Faye and Don were members,  it was Faye, who we all saw at meetings.  Faye came to the first meeting we had in October 2005 to see if there was any interest in getting the League backup and running and joined right on the spot. She worked on the educational portion of the “Know Your Community” project with Judie Brown.  In addition she was a member of the Immigration Study Committee. When she came back after spending the summer in MN this year, she started to work with Frances Spedding on membership.  If you needed something to be done, she was there.  Faye was a long time League member in Minnesota and held many positions both on the local and state level. Both she and Don were devoted to education. They will be deeply missed as members of this community as well as the League. Our deepest sympathies to their sons and their grandson who was the apple of  Faye’s eye. A memorial service was held in Minneapolis on Jan. 5, and it is our understanding that their sons might be planning one for friends and neighbors here in TheVillages. We will let you know.
