Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar Training

Wednesday, March 19, 2014,  12 Noon – 1:30PM

If you wish to register voters for the upcoming elections in May and November 2014 and do not have a current certificate, it is necessary to attend the above training. Please contact Michele Schneider, micheles@co.kerr.tx.us or call her at 830-792-2248 to register.  You may also register by contacting Gloria Algeo at galgeo@ktc.com.  There is no cost.  If you have been certified before, bring your voter registration supplies and booklet with you.

National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, September 23, 2014.   If you are interested in volunteering to register voters at events scheduled throughout the Kerrville Area for an hour or two, please contact the  League of Women Voters at voter@lvw-kerrvillearea.org.

The League meets in Bella Vita's Private Dining Room. Bella Vita's Restaurant is located across Junction Highway from Billy Gene's Restaurant.

All League Members are encouraged to attend. Discussion will be of the March Primary Election results and planning for future candidate forums. As always, an open meeting for all who have interest in the League of Women Voters - Kerrville Area.

Mondays,  February 3 and February 10, 2014

The League of Women Voters-Kerrville Area will sponsored two Candidate Forums February 3 and February 10 for candidates running for Kerr County offices in the March 4 Primary Elections.  Each Forum ran from 5:30-8 p.m. in the Community Room of the Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB) which is located at  is located at 2250 Memorial Blvd., Kerrville, TX 78028.  There was no charge for these events and the location is handicapped accessible. Attendance was standing room only.

The League of Women Voters - Kerrville Area are selling tickets until 10 AM Saturday morning November 9, 2013!       Each $5 ticket purchased will entitle you to $5 off your purchase (one $5 ticket per purchase; you may purchase as many as you wish).  For each $5 spent during the 6AM to 10AM sale, Belk's will contribute a charitable gift to the the League of Women Voters - Kerrville Area which will be used towards voter education.

The League of Women Voters - Kerrville Area Consensus meeting regarding the LWV - Texas "State Study" of the issues of human trafficking in Texas. All League Members are encouraged to attend. Only League members will be participating in Consensus so consider joining at this meeting if you are not as of yet a member. (The laws pertaining to human-trafficking divide the issues into labor trafficking and sex trafficking. The State Study focuses on several issues of sex trafficking - prevention, prosecution, protection and agency partnership.)

Join us!   A Bandera Independent School District Candidates Forum will be presented by the League of Women Voters - Kerrville Area Thursday, October 21, 2013 starting at 6:30pm Community Room of the Bandera Electric Cooperative, 3172 State Highway 16, Bandera.  Candidates for the BISD Position 5 are Brittany Hicks and Daniel MacNeil.  The meeting site is accessible to handicapped persons. 

The audience is invited to submit written questions for the Candidates.  The event is free and open to the public. Please arrive before 6:30p.m.

The League of Women Voters is nonpartisan.  There must be at least two candidates in participation for each position in the forum.  This Candidates Forum was offered to all Candidates for Position 5 and Position 6 of the Bandera Independent School District in the November 5, 2013 Election.  Three of the candidates agreed to participate.  As a result only the Position 5 Candidates will give their person statements and qualifications then answer audience questions during the League Candidates Forum.

Bring your questions and learn more about the BISD Position 5 candidate's positions in preparation for the November 5th Election.  Free and open to the public

Join us!   A Texas Constitutional Amendments Forum will be presented by the League of Women Voters - Kerrville Area Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 6 to 7:30pm in the KPUB Board Room
at the Utility Board offices located at 2250 Memorial Blvd. The meeting site is accessible to handicapped persons.


The forum format will be comprised of community members knowledgeable of each of the nine specific amendments presenting information in a five to seven minute time frame.   Attendees from the community can submit written questions for a response by the presenter.

Community members who have knowledge and understanding each of the amendments will present information on the amendments.  The audience is invited to submit written questions.  The event is free and open to the public. Please arrive before 6 p.m.

Speakers about the amendments are:

            Fourth Coates, Amendments  - #1, #4, and  #5.

            Richard B. Johnson, Jr., MD - Amendment #2

            Priscilla Wright - Amendment #3

            Mary Ellen Summerlin - Amendment #6

September 19, 2013 The League of Women Voters - Kerrville Area is participating in the LWV - Texas "State Study" of the issues of human trafficking in Texas. The State Study focuses on several issues of sex trafficking - prevention, prosecution, protection and agency partnership. National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 8:15AM - 5:00PM The LWV-KA plans to register voters as several sites in the Kerrville area throughout the day.  Consider joining the League of Women Voters that day as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar.  (Please see the Volunteer Deputy Registration Training above to register for training.) s Equality Day is Monday, August 26th
. LWV-KA will meet 6:00PM - 7:30PM that evening in Billy Gene's Private Dining Room in celebration of women in the United States winning the right to vote. Women's Equality Day was designated by Congress to not only honor and commemorate this historic event but to call attention to the treatment of women as second-class citizens and their continuing fight for equal rights. Come join us as we celebrate this historic event!
