About us

Lulworth and Winfrith Church of England Primary School is an outstanding school for pupils aged between 4 and 11. After the reorganisation of the Purbeck Schools we became a full Primary School in September 2013.

In February 2016 the Juniors moved to a new, purpose built school. The new site has given the children access to a school hall and modern facilities all on one level. This enables the school to cater for children who may have issues with their mobility.
We are an amalgamated school on two sites in the neighbouring villages of West Lulworth and Winfrith Newburgh, with Key Stage 1 (Infants) at Winfrith and Key Stage 2 (Juniors) at Lulworth.

The school, with about 100 pupils in total, enjoys small class sizes and a high teacher to pupil ratio.
Pupils receive exemplary care because each child is known and valued.’ Ofsted November 2011

The children will tell you that, 'teachers make our lessons fun and interesting and we learn a lot.’
We believe that every child is important and has a unique gift. From the moment that a child walks through the school doors we are committed to doing the best that we possibly can for that child and making every moment a memorable, exciting learning experience.

‘Effective teaching for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage means that they have a good start to school life. Teachers skilfully use assessment information to plan exciting lessons which meet the needs of all pupils. Pupils’ excellent behaviour and attendance ensure happy, successful and productive learning for all. Their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is excellent and lies at the heart of the school’s work. Pupils’ outstanding academic skills and personal qualities prepare pupils exceptionally well for later learning and life.’                                                                                                                                                                              Ofsted November 2011

There is a privately managed Pre-school on the Winfrith site that takes children from the age of 2.5 years and also one associated with the school based at the nearby Lulworth Army Camp.

The school has strong connections with the Church of England and the children are frequent visitors to both St Christopher’s church at Winfrith and Holy Trinity church at West Lulworth.

The school is part of the Purbeck Education Partnership and work together to ensure smooth transition into Secondary school.
