Announcement and Celebration:

Hello, this is Dr. Steve Jenkins, chairman of the Educational Leadership program here at Lamar University. I say here, but there as well – where you are because our award winning online program services graduate students throughout Texas, as well as several other states, and a few doing internships in other countries around the world.

I wanted to take a few moments as we get ready to launch our Fall 1 classes, to make some significant comments and announcements that celebrate the programs in our department, as well as help you with each of your programs!

We are proud to announce that Lamar’s Educational Leadership programs have all just received “National Recognition” for our two Master’s programs leading to Principal Certification – the Ed Admin Master’s and the Ed Tech Leadership Master’s. The Principal and Superintendent Certification programs also received “National Recognition.”

Thanks to all of you for providing samples of exemplary work that we submitted to meet all of the national ELCC (Education Leadership Constituent Council) and ISTE (International Society for Technology Education).

Only 3 universities in Texas have achieved National Recognition!!!

As you will see, Lamar becomes one of only a dozen universities to receive NCATE National Recognition in Texas.

The National Recognition was awarded because of the Signature Assessments (that is several of your key course assignments) were reviewed and received “exemplary” or “accomplished,” scoring from the Board of Reviewers. They reviewed assignments that you have submitted to EPIC and TK 20.

As you may know, in early 2011, after a site visit and review of assignments, particularly submissions in your Internship, TEA auditors gave our program “commended” rating. That rating, along with our successful passing rate on the Principal and Superintendent TExES exams has helped to earn Lamar graduates a great deal of respect, and in many instances, assisted in their achieving campus and district promotions.

The Chancellor of the Texas State University System, recently visited Lamar, and told all of the faculty and staff, “Lamar has become a leader in offering quality online graduate education – you have demonstrated that quality graduate education can be delivered 24/7 to students throughout the nation and world.”

So we now have seals of approval from the Texas Education Agency, NCATE Specialized Program Areas (ELCC and ISTE), and the Texas State University System. In addition, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has given their stamp of approval to our new online Doctorate in Educational Leadership, and we are getting ready to start Cohort 3 this Fall!

It has been our on-going collaboration that has made this all possible!! Thanks to each of you!!!
