2014 Events

Loyalhannon Spinners participate in various events throughout the year. This year we will be demonstrating spinning and perhaps weaving at the following events.  A look at where we’ve been in the past follows this year’s schedule.

April 27Fleece to shawl demo, 
Westmoreland Earth Day at St Vincent College 
May 12 - 15

Derry Area Elementary School (Grandview)- Ag Week  

Spinning demonstration (one day, to be determined)

May 17Fleece to shawl competition, Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Festival 
  August   Fleece to scarf demo, Westmoreland County Fair, Family Living Building

Past Events include:

  • The Compass Inn, Laughlintown, a restored drovers inn where drovers would stop with their herds on the way east to Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia
  • West Overton Museum, Scottdale, birthplace of Henry Clay Frick
  • We participate annually in Earth Day held on the Saint Vincent campus, Latrobe. 
  • The Historic Fulton House in New Derry during their Lammas Day Festival
  • The Flax Scutching Festival in Stahlstown
  • Women in Agriculture Display and Demo at the Westmoreland Mall
  • Westmoreland Agricultural Fair with fleece to shawl demonstrations and nightly spinning demonstrations
  • Derry Township Agricultural Fair
  • Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Fayette County
  • Friendship Hill National Historic Site, home of Albert Gallatin, Secretary of the Treasury during the administration of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison 
  • Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Greensburg
