Lavender Festival in Battersea

LAVENDER FESTIVAL SUMMER FAIR ON BATTERSEA'S FAMOUS LAVENDER HILL

Sunday 22nd June 2008, 11am to 5pm

The first ever Lavender Festival is being held along Lavender Hill this weekend, on Sunday 22nd June 2008.

Battersea’s Lavender Hill is on a geographic feature called Battersea Rise. The hill gained its famous name as a result of the lavender fields that used to exist here until the 17th century. The name became most well known as a result of the film The Lavender Hill Mob. The popular Battersea Arts Centre (BAC) is at the centre of Lavender Hill in the old Battersea Town Hall.

Now Lavender Hill will host London's first ever Lavender Festival which will celebrate the history of this wonderful part of Battersea with a street party the length of Lavender Hill. The day will include fun and games provided by all the traders, such as an attempt to break the Guinness World Record TM for the most Ferrero Rocher eaten in one minute!

A Lavender Hill Town Crier has been picked in an open contest that took place at The Taybridge this week, on Wednesday night - see that story >>

There will be a particular focus on Food and Drink - visitors will have the chance to sample great food from all over the world, thanks to the vast and varied collection of eateries located along our street.

Lillidiva will be recreating the famous Magnolia Bakery from Sex in the City with delicious pastel iced cupcakes for sale, all proceeds going to the charity. Keep up to date with the plans by visiting the dedicated page to this event on LavenderHill.co.uk , that will be updated as events unfold.

The Traders Association of Lavender Hill, who are organising this event have had great support from the Clapham Junction Town Centre Partnership which has helped make this community day possible – they have cited Lorinda Freint, the Town Centre Manageress, as deserving special thanks for all her guidance and positive involvement.

If you are interested in being involved with this worthy community event, then please get in contact immediately with Emma@LavenderHill.co.uk This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it - she will be happy to hear from you.

So, TURN UP, HAVE FUN AND BE SURE TO BE THERE OR BE BATTERSEA SQUARE……
