IN A SEEDY LEATHER BAR, ON SAINT VALENTINE’S DAY,
A DREAM OF HARMONIOUS-CREATIVE EXPRESSION CAME TOGETHER,
AND LOVEBALL PDX WAS BORN.

Inspired by Ball culture, creative-decadent nightlife, and the legendary 1989 fundraiser “Love Ball” by Susanne Bartsch, Love Ball PDX has a simple mission; to provide a night where everyone can come together and discover and encourage their creative side,
continuing a queer tradition of exploring identity markers, raising money for the community and, love.

What was meant to be a one-time experience, became a staple of Valentines day in Portland, and now a touring event to further inspire the children to indulge into their own and the communities imagination. As the event has matured over the years, The Love Ball PDX crew decided to get back to the root of where the event was inspired (Love Ball NYC), and make the event a fundraising opportunity for local foundations that support the LGBTQ community.

Love Ball is inspired by ball culture, but is in no ways your average ball. We are not serving Executive Realness or Formal Evening Attire (it’s not our thing, that’s all), we’re looking for Fixed Gear in Heels, Blue Collar Drag, Rooster Rock Realness (Portland’s premier nude beach), Creature Feature... We want to pay homage to the culture of each city we are in, inspire fun expressions of the imagination, and give into camp for camp’s sake. Let us make one thing clear, we love a good dose of shade, but shade that is playful and artistically challenging; not shade that will weaken the crop. It’s not about winning, it’s about having your moment to shine.
